Week Ending 19th October 2008
Minor A’s triumph in 15 Acres
For the minor A’s it was a homecoming of sorts when they travelled to the Fifteen Acres in Phoenix Park to play Naomh Fionnbarra in the third and final championship group game. For most of the 1940’s, the 1950’s and the early part of the 1960’s the Fifteen Acres was home to the Crokes Hurling Club. On a pitch that had not seen a grass cutter for many a day Crokes ran out 7-13 to 0-6 winners. An early Kevin O’Loughlin goal against the wind settled the nerves. Crokes were 3-3 to 0-3 ahead at the interval. The full back line was good throughout. Midfielder, Eddie O’ Byrne, and wing forward, Barra O’Leidhin, were very prominent. Centre forward, Darren McVeigh, had an excellent game and the full forward line linked well. The team now faces Cuala in the semi final.
Team: B Mulligan, D Monnelly, B O’Carroll, A Whelan, K Doherty, G McMorrow, N Mulligan, E O’Byrne, M Coughlan, E Culligan, D McVeigh, B O’Leidhin, S McGrath, B Hanamy, K O’Loughlin. Subs: K Motherway for E Culligan (26 mins), A Carr for K Doherty (38 mins), J Doughan for B Hanamy (40 mins) and M O’Dwyer for G McMorrow.
Minor B’s win in Moibhi Road
The minor B’s went to Moibhi Road to play Na Fianna and with strong performances from Paul Collins, Sean Garvey, Keith Hogarty, Colm Garvey, Gary Melican and Eoin Dalton, came away with a 3-11 to 2-6 win.
Team: S Garvey, C O’Brien, P Collins, H Byrne, S Harding, K Casey, E Hyland, S Murphy, J O’Keeffe, E Dalton, C Garvey, C Caulfield, M Lynskey, K Hogarty, G Melican. Subs: B Callinan for S Harding, C Thornton for C Garvey, K Russell for M Lynskey, B Halpin for G Melican, E O’Dwyer, J Healy-Hayes and D Brennan
Under 10 Tournament
At home in Glenalbyn the under 10’s held a well organised and highly successful tournament. Taking part were Na Piarsaigh (Cork), Newtownshandrum (Cork), Naomh Eanna (Wexford), Lucan Sarsfields (Dublin), Cuala (Dublin) and Clontarf (Dublin) along with two Crokes teams. Both Crokes teams hurled exceptionally well with one of them reaching the final against Na Piarsaigh and the other winning the third/fourth place play off.
All the colours of the Rainbow at the Under 10 Tournament in Glenalbyn!
The final was a tremendous game. Crokes struck the first blow with a point. At half time they led 1-1 to 1-0 turning into the wind. A pointed free put them two ahead. The Cork side goaled almost from the puck out and shortly after a wonderful Crokes score restored the two point lead. Despite strong Na Piarsaigh pressure the Crokes defence held firm and the trophy was kept in Glenalbyn on 2-2 to 2-0 scoreline. Tournaments of this nature greatly help to develop hurling in the club. Our congratulations to the management team, anyone who helped out on the day, to our visitors and to all the teams who took part.

Stars of the day included goalkeeper Caolan Conway, Mathew Geraghty, James Murphy, Cian Gormley, Conor O’Byrne and Conor Devins.

Under 13 League Champions miss out on Double
On Saturday the Under 13’s narrowly lost their county final with Cuala by 2-6 to 1-8. This was a hard fought game on the St Brigids all-weather pitch in Russell Park. By the twentieth minute Crokes led 0-4 to 0-1. A twenty ninth minute goal had the game level at 0-5 to 1-2 on the short whistle. With a goal and two points by the thirty third minute the Dalkey side were five points clear. In the forty ninth minute Odhran O’Siochru’s wonderful goal brought the teams level, 1-7 to 2-4. Cuala went one up. Crokes pegged them back before the crucial score came in the fifty seventh minute to give Cuala the title. Among Crokes better performers were Odhran O’Siochru, Conor Hayes, Ronan Horgan, Michael O’Dwyer and Dara Mullin. While the boys will be disappointed very often more is learnt from defeat than in victory and we have every confidence in the longer run the team will profit from the experience and build on their undoubted potential County final are not easily reached. The team and all concerned are deserving of our thanks and praise in particular the management team led by Gearoid MacGabhann, Tom McIntyre, John Lonergan, Jim Kane and Dave Kane who did a wonderful job all year.
Team: Tadgh Murphy, Conor Hayes Odhran O’Siochru (1-0), Edward Campion, Donnchadha O’Murchu, Cian MacGabhann (0-2, 65’s -2), Ronan Horgan, Stephen Faughey, David Kane, Ciaran McIntyre, Mark O’Loughlin (0-5, f -1), Dara O’Gallchobhair (0-1), Michael O’Dwyer, Donal Keane, Kevin O’Flanagain. Hurling Nursery
There will be no Hurling Nursery on Saturday 25 October (Bank Holiday weekend). We will resume on Saturday 1 November in Glenalbyn at 10am.
All newcomers will begin their training with Niall Corcoran, Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Coach, in “the new group” for a few weeks and then the older new players will be transferred into their appropriate age group. Existing under 6’s (born 2002) and under 7’s (born 2001) will train under Mark Lohan and Ken Hall, respectively. The boys born in 2003 will continue as a separate group and become the “new” Under 6’s at the beginning of 2009.
Communication with parents is by both e-mail and by text. We strongly encourage parents to subscribe to our tacutext texting service in order to be kept fully informed of team notices, training news, change of venue/pick-up times, etc. specific to your son's group. Each message you receive will cost you 20c. The message will be sent to the phone from which the instruction is sent.

Parental Assistance
We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Quote from Parent
“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved. And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career! Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
