Week Ending 1st June 2009
By far the busiest group of the week were the under 13’s. On Tuesday the A’s had a comprehensive 5-13 to 1-3 win away to Faughs in League Division 1. On Thursday evening the B’s lost by five points to Oliver Plunkets/Eoghan Ruadh. Leading the fight for Crokes were Matthew Redmond, Cian Montague, Andrew Liffey, Stephen Barr, Ruairi Geraghty and Niall Sweeney.
On Saturday both under 13 squads headed to Limerick as guests of the Monaleen club. The A’s laid claim to silverware when winning out their tournament with strong group wins over Newport (Tipperary) and St Finbarrs (Cork). Midleton, having accounted for the hosts and Faughs, awaited in the final. Crokes dominated the opening half and led 3-2 to 0-0 at the break. With a little more steadiness in front of goal the margin could have been more. An early second half point for the Kilmacud lads suggested the game was in the bag. Two Midleton goals over the next ten minutes caused opinions to be revised but Crokes steadied the ship, added on a further 2-2 to no score and emerged impressive winners. The B’s played three games, defeating Monaleen’s B side, just falling short to a mixture of Faughs A’s and B’s and losing, after putting up dogged resistance, to Murroe Boher (Limerick).
At that the weekend was half over. Having overnighted in University of Limerick on Sunday it was off to the Banner for clashes with Inagh Kilnamona for the A’s and Tulla, where “the Claremen lay their dead” for the B’s. Both ties proved highly competitive. The B’s, level at 1-3 apiece at the break, put in a heroic second half and looked to have secured the win until a late unstoppable Tulla shot found its way to the net. Even at that the Stillorgan boys refused to lie down and it took some tenacious defended for the East Clare lads to hold out, 2-4 to 1-5. The A’s went west of Ennis for their game and overcame their hosts, 5-10 to 4-9, after a great game with some very good tough hurling.
Some of the more intrepid then took in the Cork –v- Tipperary Munster Hurling championship game at Semple Stadium en route back to base. A fantastic weekend was had by all and many thanks to our host clubs and to the management and organising team behind the foray. For more later report. Next Saturday the A’s travel to Cork for the prestigious Na Piarsaigh tournament.
At the other end of the underage spectrum, back at base on Saturday, the under 7’s ran the latest in their series of very popular monthly blitzes. Despite the Bank Holiday weekend six teams took part, each playing three games and getting in valuable practice for the mini All-Irelands starting on 8th June. For details see later report.

The under 11’ results are awaited.
To wrap up the long weekend the under 12’s went to Gorey on Monday with a 24 man squad and played Naomh Eanna in a game of three 20 minute thirds, eventually giving way 6-10 to 6-8.
On Thursday the under 14’s bounced back from their Feile disappointment to record a convincing 3-10 to 0-7 win over St Vincents on a narrow pitch at Fairview Park. To the fore for Crokes were Sean Bedford, Conor Hayes, Donncha O’Murchu and Gregory Buckley.
At adult level there was a reality check for the seniors when they went down 3-16 to 3-8 away to Craobh Chiaran in AHL1 on Thursday. Crokes had it back to three points with five minutes remaining but the result was never in doubt. At the break the home team led 1-10 to 0-6.
Team:
E Dalton, S McNicholas, F Garvey, W Ryan, H Gannon, D Byrne A Grogan, S Gillen, N Mulligan, B O’Leidhin, E de Paor, J Burke (2-1), J Doughan, F Armstrong (0-7, f-5, 65-1), S McGrath (1-0). Subs: C Sheehan and A McCarthy.
The previous evening the Junior C3’s took two league points when Erin Go Breagh were unable to field in AHL8.
On the intercounty front, Dublin, with three Crokes players, Rory O’Carroll, Ronan Walsh and Conor Clinton and Barry O’Rorke also on the panel, accounted for Kildare in the Leinster Championship in Clane on Tuesday night.
Highlight of the coming week is the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship clash of Dublin and Antrim in Croke Park on Sunday 7th June 2009

Parental Assistance
We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Quote from Parent
“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved. And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career! Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
