Senior Ladies Championship Final
All eyes were on our wonderful senior ladies squad last Saturday 12th September as they togged out to meet old rivals Foxrock.
Anyone who knows these girls, or any of the management team and back room staff, know how much work and effort went in to secure a place in the final.
Big match days are always fraught with a mixture of excitement and nervous tension, but this year brought a unique challenge to all. Playing a match behind closed doors must have been a really strange experience for the teams, especially since Ladies Football(as a sport) have increased spectator numbers past 55,000 at last count.
Our Crokes ladies can rest assured that all eyes were on them anyway...albeit virtually thanks to the live streaming on LGFA YouTube site.
The girls didn’t disappoint as we knew they wouldn’t. They showed the determination and team spirit for which they are held in such high esteem by all the members of our club, especially the juvenile players.
Many of those playing for Kilmacud that day started their playing careers in our very own nursery with Pat and John Sheridan and Yvonne Burke, and rose through the various years to earn their place in the senior squad. That’s the sign of a true community based Club.
Although the narrow defeat was devastating for the girls, we hope they get some consolation from knowing that to the community that is Kilmacud Crokes, they will always be Winners.
