Healthy Club - Recipes for Success

Body

Kilmacud Crokes have signed up to be part of the GAA’s Healthy Club initiative. Our involvement in this will be a focus area under our Crokes Talks Mental health and general wellbeing charter.  One of the Healthy club initiative aims is to create a supportive environment in which it promotes healthy eating for all its members and the wider community.  This will improve general wellbeing and player performance.  Under this program, Recipes for Success is a unique healthy eating/nutritional initiative designed to respond to an identified need in GAA clubs for practical programmes supporting healthy eating for GAA players and members. Recipes for Success has two elements: a “hands-on” cookery workshop which is exclusive to Healthy Clubs and a toolkit which is filled with tasty, healthy, performance enhancing recipes that are quick and easy to make.

On Wednesday May 11th, Crokes linked up with OATLANDS College and Helen O Reilly, the domestic science teacher  to organize a hands-on session for a number of our young players to try their hand out in Recipes for Success.  The players who took part were from a  cross section of all 4 codes in the club at Under 16 and Minor level :  Denis Murray, Sean Kinsella, Oisin Ó Siochrú, Alan Lundon, Colum O’ Se, William Farmer, Hugh Keane, Orna McLoughlin, Laura Kane, Rebecca Beggins, Nora Cregg, Meadhbh Gallagher, Kim Farren, Catherine Egan, Cian Moriarty, Ciaran Horan and Stephen Horgan.  All the players really got involved in the session and found it informative and enjoyable. The club would like to record a note of thanks to Oatlands College and Helen O’ Reilly  for their support and partnership. Credit also to Kevin Mulligan our club Wellbeing Officer for organizing the event and also to Frances Mullin for taking the photos.

Keep an eye on the Crokes Website for details of future events which will be held under the Crokes Talks / Healthy Cub banner.
