Kilmacud Crokes Member Feature - Mick Carolan AKA Marathon Man !!!!!
For many individuals, the challenge of a lifetime is to complete one Marathon That would be a significant achievement. .But for one of our long standing members, Mick Carolan, he has taken this to a totally different level. Mick is one of just 10 athletes who has completed all 42 Dublin City Marathons. And for good measure for the Covid years where the marathon was not run, he went out and did his own marathons which was tracked virtually. Incredible achievement. As stated, Mick is a long standing member of the club. He has been involved in coaching and mentoring teams at various different levels in the club. He has been a support driver for the KCwheelers contingent in a number of the M2M charity cycles. He has worked tirelessly at the Football 7's tournaments over many years. Most recently, he has become one of our most active members in the Kilmacud Community Men's Shed. Mick is the epitome of volunteerism and is always there to lend a hand.
When asked about this most recent Dublin City Marathon, Mick said he really enjoyed it. He had a good summer of training with his club Brothers Pearse, so had lots of stamina and strength. Conditions for most of the race were ideal, cool and calm. with some heavy showers towards the end. He said the support from the large crowds along the course was amazing.
When recalling all the Dublin City Marathons he has completed, he points to the Best year being 2019 for the 40th. Having his daughter Aoife and son Chris running with him was special. Mick's advice advice to anybody that wants to run a marathon or to improve their time is to join a running club. You will get lots of help and you will improve by running with others.
