Green Club
In 2020, Kilmacud Crokes was one of 45 clubs selected to participate in Phase 1 of the GAA’s new Green Club Programme. The Green Club Programme (GCP) is being initiated as part of the GAA’s work as an Irish champion of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (the Association was selected by the Department of Communication, Climate Action, and Environment in September 2019).
It involves a partnership between the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Associations and local authorities across Ireland, with additional support from expert agencies that reflect the five thematic focus areas of the programme, namely: Energy, Waste, Biodiversity, Water & Travel & Transport.
Kilmacud Crokes were assigned to a Transport sub-group along with four other clubs and expert partners (National Transport Authority & Road Safety Authority). Unfortunately, Progress was slow due to Covid.
Initiative around Transport included:
- Cycle Safety Course
- Bike Maintenance Course
- Women on Wheels Initiative
- Provision of additional Bike racks at Glenalbyn House and Silver Park.
In December 2022, We completed phase 1 and were awarded Gren Club status. We are now in the Phase 2 process. For more information on GAA Green CLub Toolkit please visit https://learning.gaa.ie/greenclub
