Report Week Ending 11th September 2011

Body

Saturday 10th September 2011 resulted in disappointment for the Dublin under 21’s as they went down to Galway under lights in the All-Ireland final at Semple Stadium.  Apart from a brief early period the Westerners had the better of the exchanges and won by 3-14 to 1-10.  Crokes were represented by corner backs, Bill O’Carroll and Jack Doughan and Kevin O’Loughlin who started at wing forward.  Sean McGrath was introduced as a substitute at half time and Barry Mulligan was on the extended panel.  Our commiserations and thanks to them all for representing the club so well at the highest level throughout the year.  For hill16.ie report see HERE.

Spirits were lifted on Sunday morning 11th September 2011 in Silverpark as the intermediates eased through to the semi final by defeating Setanta, 2-18 to 1-5.  By midway there was clear blue water between the sides as Crokes led 1-9 to 0-2.  Sean Garvey kept a safe goal and Niall Lillis, Declan Browne and Andrew Hopkins were very solid in front of him. Dillon Mulligan and Mark Coghlan were superb at midfield and up front Donal McGovern, Alan Tiernan and Barra o Leidhin were the pick.  For photos see HERE.  To read more on this match, including the Evening Herald report and photos, clck HERE. The previous Tuesday the team travelled to Wexford for a challenge against Oulart-the-Ballagh's intermediate squad.

In the afternoon the Junior E’s crossed over to Skerries to play the locals in a play off to decide who top their qualifying group.  After extra time, a last minute goal denied Crokes, who put in an excellent team effort, by two points, 1-15 to 2-10.

Earlier on Saturday we had three groups on their travels.  En route to support the under 21’s, the seniors stopped off in Borrisoleigh for a challenge against the Pete Finnerty trained Mullagh of Galway.  A good contest ensued.  With the strong wind Crokes led 3-4 to 2-6 after thirty minutes.  At full time the lead had swung the other way and the game ended 3-14 to 3-8.  Matthew Collins, Niall Corcoran, Gary McMorrow, Conor Clinton and Ryan O’Dwyer shone.  For pictures see HERE
