Following a closely contested match, the seniors Leinster League campaign came to an end against Raharney at Killucan, Co Westmeath on Saturday 9th April 2011.  Midway Raharney were 1-6 to 1-4 to the good.  At the conclusion the gap had halved, 2-11 to 2-10.  Captain Shane O’Rorke led by example from midfield aided by his brother, Barry.  Shane McNicholas and Gary Melican performed strongly in the backs.  Up front Karl Russell and Ken Kelly battled hard against physical opposition.  For photos see HERE or click on the photo below!  For report see HERE

As the excellent sunny spell continued, all bar the under 12’s were in league action.  First out were the under 16’s who played Ballyboden St Enda’s at Ballycullen.  Crokes led all the way.  They had much the better of the first half exchanges at the end of which they led 1-9 to 0-4.  They continued to hold the upper hand in the second period but could only score twice.  A goal and three points in the last ten minutes from Boden raised anxiety levels.  Best for the victors were Sean Bedford, Gregory Buckley, Ciaran McIntyre, Edward Campion, Dara O’Gallchobhair and Donal Keane.  For pictures see HERE or on the photo below!

Team: C MacGabhann, S Bedford, O O’Siochru, G Buckley, M O’Dwyer, D O’Murchu, C McIntyre, E Campion, R Horgan, C Keane-Breslin (0-1), S Faughey, D O’Gallchobhair (0-6, f-5), R Conlon (1-0), D Keane (0-4), D Mullin.  Sub: E Allen for C Keane-Breslin (60 min, inj).

It was a double for the under 14’s.  The A’s were in Silverpark where they overcame Cuala in Division 1 by 2-11 to 1-9.  The winners held a 1-5 to 0-5 half time advantage in a game where they got significant returns from Cathal Keane, Conor Kelly, Tom Fox and Conor O’Dwyer.

The U14B’s second division game versus Castleknock was played in Somerton as part of the opening festivities for their impressive new facilities. The journey proved worthwhile with Crokes coming out on top by 4-8 to 2-11. Impressive defensive performances by Ciaran Hennessy, Hugh Campion and Eoin Sheehy were matched by fine score taking at the other end by Michael Frawley, Feargal Whitley and Stevie O'Dwyer

The year younger A’s travelled to St Anne’s Park to face St Vincents where they went down by a point, 4-7 to 4-6.

Deerpark was the venue for the under 13B’s division 4 tie with Clondalkin Round Towers.  This was an exciting game that swung both ways.  Early Crokes pressure had the visitors on the back foot but it was Towers who registered the first scores.  A well taken opportunistic goal by Ciaran Gorman after thirteen minutes brought Crokes back into it.  The first half exchanges continued to be frenetic before the sides broke for respite with Towers ahead 3-4 to 2-1.  With ten minutes remaining Crokes full forward Sean O’Sullivan was rewarded for his perseverance with a green flag.  This prompted a period of pressure for the home side but it was enough to claim the spoils as Towers came home 5-8 to 4-2 to the good.  For report see HERE

Click here for images of the Minor AThe splendid sunshine was again in evidence at Pairc de Burca when the minor A’s proved far too strong for a depleted Castleknock outfit in MHL1.  Four “official” first half goals and one the referee gave as a point put the issue beyond doubt after thirty minutes (4-5 to 0-2).  The reprise was more of the same and the man in charge recorded a 6-13 to 1-3 verdict.   For pictures see HERE

If the opener was tame the opposite was the case for the follow on where a pulsating Division 3 game saw the under 15B’s come home 4-4 to 2-8 against Kevins.  A twenty seventh minute Kevins goal completed the pre-interval scoring, leaving the margin as tight as could be, 2-3 to 2-2, in favour of Crokes.  Five third quarter overs without answer looked to spell curtains for the Kilmacud boys when up popped the Ronan Kennedy for his third goal to reduce the arrears to 2-7 to 3-3.  The visitors forged ahead by another point.  Then in the fifty fifth minute Barney Sultan, now operating at full forward, ran through, found the net and Crokes were back in front.  A moment later Ronan Kennedy doubled the lead.  That was enough drama for most games but we were not done as Cillian Fleming was called upon to make a great double save to secure the spoils.  While the forwards got the scores this was a victory based on an outstanding defensive performance.  For report see HERE and click on the image below to see photos of the match!

Johnstown Park was not as productive a hunting ground for the under 15A’s, away to Na Fianna in the first division.  The leath am calculation showed the home side 1-7 to 0-4 clear and by full time they had made it 1-17 to 0-10.  Nevertheless this was a good battling performance from the injury hit Crokes with the key difference being the concession of a long range goal and the Kilmacud boys nil return from three good goal chances.  Mark McCallion, Cillian O’Shea, Sean Keating and Peter Herlihy stood out.
