Report Week Ending 17th July 2011
Five more Leinster under 21 hurling championship medals came to the club on Wednesday evening 13th July 2011 as a result of Dublin’s 1-18 to 0-11 win over Wexford in the final at Wexford Park
Four Crokes men, Bill O’Carroll, Jack Doughan, Kevin O’Loughlin and Sean McGrath were on the field at the finish. A fifth, Barry Mulligan, also played an important part in the 2011 campaign. Congratulations to the lads in question and to team doctor Chris Thompson on their achievements and the best of luck in the All-Ireland campaign which commences with a semi final against the Ulster champions on 20th August 2011. Well done also to the unsung heroes the parents and families as well as to all the mentors who played their parts in the development of these young hurlers. For report and pictures see HERE
Intercounty fare continues next Sunday when the Dublin seniors play Limerick in the All-Ireland quarter final in Thurles, throw in 2pm. All support gratefully received as the seniors attempt to emulate both the under 21’s and minors by reaching the All-Ireland semi final.
In a much quieter club week than the previous the two adult teams to take the field recorded good league wins.
On Monday 11th July 2011 the Intermediates travelled to Clondalkin Community Centre to play the local Round Towers in AHL3. A dour first half ended 0-4 apiece. With the wind advantage in the second half Crokes took control and ran out 0-15 to 0-9 winners. For report see HERE
Twenty four hours later the Junior A’s continued their recent climb up the AHL5 league table with a four point victory over Crumlin in Silverpark. Their second win in succession sees them on seven points with two games to play. The first half exchanges were close with never more than two points between the teams. It ended 1-4 to 1-3 in favour of Crumlin. The third quarter followed the same pattern at the end of which the sides were level at 1-7 each. In the space of three minutes the game turned. Two goals and a point for the Kilmacud men opened a seven point gap. Try as they might Crumlin were unable to bridge the gap and it ended 3-10 to 2-9. For report see HERE
In Division 1 of the league the under 16’s lost to Cuala 2-15 to 2-9 at Silverpark on Monday 11th July 2011. At half time the visitors were 1-8 to 0-5 ahead. On a night when the better team won a strong start put the Dalkey boys in command. A second half revival was not enough to have an effect on an evening when the losers’ best included Odhran O’Siochru, Karl Doyle, Cian MacGabhann and Ryan Conlon.
Upcoming Fixtures
Apart from Dublin’s big game we have a busy week ahead with the intermediates, Junior A’s and Junior E’s in championship action
