Senior Team beat Ballyboden St Endas

Body

Crokes senior hurlers got the 2006 competitive season off to a winning start with a 4-10 to 0-9 victory over Ballyboden St Endas in Silverpark on Sunday 19th March 2006.

Playing the better hurling throughout Crokes opened the scoring with a point from Donal McGovern.  This was followed by a Brian Motherway minor and two pointed frees from Daibhi de Paor interspersed with two points from Ballyboden.  As the first half progressed Hugh Gannon began to dominate in midfield forcing Boden to move their centre back to mark him, but this failed to curb the Kilmacud number 8.

With a 2-7 to 0-6 lead at half time and the wind to come Crokes looked well set to

pull away at half time but this was not to be the case and after twelve minutes of the half each side had only registered a point.  At this stage Crokes play became a little ragged and Boden reduced the margin to four points before some Kilmacud switches saw the Stillorgan men regain the upper hand and finish strongly.

Throughout Niall Murphy and Brian Motherway were well on top of their men while full forward Paul Graham marked his competitive debut with a well taken goal and a point.  Right half forward Damien McSweeney showed some good touches and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.  James Burke crowned had a good outing with a late well taken goal.

Dave Mahony in the unaccustomed role of full back was forceful in front of goalkeeper Padraic Dempsey who dealt capably with everything that came at him.  Left corner back Cormac de Frein cleared a lot of ball while his right side colleague Adrian Grogan was tigerish.  In front them the half back line of Fionan Moriarty, Aodhan de Paor and Damien Byrne were in command.  Substitutes Damian Walsh, Eoin Roche and Derry Collins also made their mark.
