U15s do well in Wicklow

The Kilmacud Crokes under 15 hurlers got their 2007 campaign off to a start with a good challenge against the Wicklow Development Squad at Kilcoole on Saturday 10th February.

A cold morning and softish surface at the picturesque Wicklow ground made ground hurling difficult but both sides quickly shook off the early season cobwebs and a very keen contest ensued.

The opening period was nip and tuck with the sides exchanging white flags.  Midway through the half Wicklow struck for a goal and then added a point.  To their credit the Crokes youngsters dug in and had most of the play for the remainder of the half, going in two points in arrears.

The second half took up where the first left off and provided a gripping tussle with scores hard to come by for both sides.  It finished all square 0-8 to 1-5 with both teams able to take something from the game.  Crokes stars on the day included goalkeeper Sean Garvey who made a wonderful late save to keep his side in the game, James O’Keeffe, Fiachra Lynn, Brian McHenry, Mark O’Dwyer, Karl Russell, Jonathon Healy-Hayes with five points to his account, four from placed balls, and Nico Salvino.

This was a great opportunity for the new management team of Tom Curran, Diarmuid Howley and Martin O’Dwyer to run the rule over their charges and further games will follow in the coming weeks before the commencement of the league on 4th March.

Squad:

Sean Garvey, Brian McHenry, James O’Keeffe, Darren Lawlor, Fiachra Lynn, Mark O’Dwyer, Dylan Mulligan, Karl Russell, Jonathon Healy-Hayes, Oisin O’Gallchobhair, Thomas Clarke, Kevin Murphy, Nico Salvino, Ciaran Sheehy, James Eastwood-Lyons, David McNamara, Graham Fogarty, Rory Gogarty, Niall Murphy.
