Match Report/ Match Highlights:

Under 15 Hurlers – Crokes continue their winning ways.

On a bright breezy Sunday morning, the Crokes Under 15 hurlers maintained their 100% league record with an emphatic win over Cuala, on a soft bumpy Silverpark surface.

Crokes started the match playing up the hill, against a stiff enough breeze and opened strongly, in a blistering opening ten minutes, Crokes jumped into a six-point lead. Jamie converting a long range free in the opening minute, Seanie converted his first free of the day a minute later. Two minutes later Matthew got his name on the score sheet when he slotted the sliotar over the bar after a strong run from midfield. A minute later Killian extended the Crokes lead with another point and shortly afterwards Naomhan added his first point of the day. In the ninth minute Seanie got his second and Crokes sixth point. Crokes were well up and controlling the half back and midfield lines. But Cuala dug in and defended well and kept Crokes scoreless until the 21st minute when Seanie added another point to his total. Jamie, working hard as usual at center forward, converted this work into two well-taken goals in the 23rd & 25th minutes. These goals seemed to galvanise Cuala and they finished the half strongly, scoring three unanswered points. At half time, Crokes were leading 2 – 07 to 0 – 03.

Crokes now playing with the breeze, totally dominated and went on a scoring spree in the second half, adding 5 goals and ten points to the overall tally, while limiting Cuala to one point. Jamie added another goal and 3 points to his total, Naomhan added a further 4 goals and 1 point, Darren got 2 points, Seanie added another to his earlier 3 points and Murph, Peter and Barry all added a point each.

In the end it was a rather one sided affair, but Cuala were missing a couple of their stronger players. Overall it was a good performance against a team that we normally struggle against. The fullback line was solid and dealt with everything that Cuala threw at them. The halfback line and midfield provided a solid platform from which Crokes launched attack after attack, while as the score indicates, the forwards worked hard for each other and took their chances well. Good to see Jack Kelly back swinging a hurl and while a bit ring rusty, showed glimpses of his quality.

The next outing is against Ballyboden St Endas in the first round robin match of the Championship on the 11th April ’06 and they will be a much tougher proposition than when we played them in the league.
