Week Ending 18th April 2010

Body

Sat 17th and Sunday 18th was a busy time for several Kilmacud Crokes Hurlers.

Scenic Kilrush was the setting for Saturday’s Leinster League tie with Askamore Kilrush. With half time looming Crokes trailed 1-7 to 0-5. Quick fire points from Conor Clinton and a goal from Sean McGrath brought the sides to parity. The second half was evenly contested with the home side edging it, thanks mainly to being generally able to find a responding score whenever the Kilmacud team raised a flag. Final outcome 1-16 to 1-12.

Among the more prominent for the visitors were Shane McNicholas, Shane O’Rorke, Sean McGrath, Naomhan O’Rearden Team: MacD O’Hogain, S McNicholas, N Lillis, A Grogan, R Walsh, B Hanamy, G McMorrow, C Clinton, A Cleary, S O’Rorke, S Gillen, J Burke, F Armstrong, N O’Rearden, S McGrath. Subs: J Doughan for R Walsh, B Mulligan for C Clinton, B O’Leidhin for S Gillen (all half time), F Garvey for N Lillis (37 mins) and N Mulligan for G McMorrow (50 mins)

Before lunch teams from under 12 down were in regular Dublin league action.

Crokes on Tour

Early the following Sunday morning 168 boys, from the same age groups, in five buses and a convoy of cars, with a large support group of parents and families, headed for five Kilkenny venues, James Stephens, Castlecomer, Dicksboro, Cloneen and O’Loughlin Gaels for the annual Kilmacud Crokes on Tour.

After a good morning’s hurling the travelling party dined at Hotel Kilkenny and then attended the Kilkenny -v- Waterford Allianz National Hurling League clash at Nowlan Park. A highpoint was a post match visit to the Kilkenny dressing room at the invitation of Kilkenny manager Brian Cody where the Kilkenny panel could not have been more facilitating in interacting with the boys. Our sincere thanks to our host clubs, to the Kilkenny County Board for kindly arranging access to Nowlan Park and to Jim Ryan and his organising team.

Minors in action

In the capital both minor teams had away league wins. The A's overcame Erins Isle by 4-10 to 2-7 in Finglas and the B's defeated Thomas Davis, 4-13 to 2-10 at Kiltipper Road. For minor A report see HERE.

As Davis were short numbers the B game was 13 a side. Crokes stood up to what was a robust challenge with especially good performances from Niall Hanley in goal, Nico Salvino, Shane Moran (1-1) and Andrew O’Shaughnessey.

Minor B Team: N Hanley, O O’Carroll, B McHenry, C Gormley, J Butler, J Clinton, M Geraghty, S Moran, N Salvino, A O’Malley, C Conway, A Cullinane, J O’Brien. Subs: B O’Farrell, C O’Dwyer, N Murphy, A O’Shaughnessey and F Motherway

The home team took the silver medal. Congratulations to organisers Michael Culligan and Brian Geraghty and to all who helped with the event.
