Cumann na mBunscol Football Finals

Some of our local Primary Schools will play in a number of Cumann na mBunscol Football Finals in Croke Park this week over 2 days, Thursday 23rd October and Monday 3rd November. These finals are a culmination of the Senior leagues which started back in early September and are concluding with a chance for the young players to run out and play in Croke Park. 248 schools started out in the Cumann na mBunscol senior competitions and 62 schools are involved in this year's finals. The 5 local schools that will play in Croke Park are:

  • Scoil San Treasa
  • St. Mary's Booterstown
  • Our Lady's Grove
  • Mt. Anville
  • Hollypark BNS.

From a Kilmacud Crokes Football point of view these last few months have seen some very exciting developments. After a lot of hard work and dedication from a bunch of very enthusiastic teachers supported by our very own club coach Paraic Mc Donald, we are now looking forward to 5 local Schools with lots of talented Crokes players featuring in Croke Park.

Pride of place goes to 2 Schools who are about to contest the Division 1 and the Division 2 Boys Senior Football finals.
For the 1st time ever Hollypark Boys NS will play in the Division 1 Corn Kitterick Final against Sc John Paul II form Malahide. We have to go back to 2001 for the last time that one of our Schools won this prestigious trophy, St.Laurences then winning it for the 1st time (St.Brigids Foxrock actually won it last year a couple of Kilmacud Crokes Players playing starring roles). Great credit must go to the Coach/Teacher Barry O'Donovan and Principal Helen Kelly for all the support and work they have put in developing Gaelic Games in the School. With the help of a large number of teachers and the support of Kilmacud Crokes there are over 250 boys playing Gaelic Football on a weekly basis in the school. This trip to Croke Park is a fitting reward for that work.

Scoil San Treasa Mt.Merrion are preparing to contest the Division 2 Football Final Corn na nGearaltach against Ballyroan. On the way to the final the boys defeated St. Mícheál's, St. Pius's, St. Joseph's, Scoil Assaim in the quarter-final and then won against a strong Bayside team in the semi-final. A huge amount of credit goes to the Coach/Teacher Tony Walsh and Principal Anne English for all the support and work that they give to developing Gaelic Games in their School. Brian Cadigan has also worked tirelessly for a number of years in developing the strong Gaelic Games ethos in Scoil San Treasa. This is their second successive year to qualify for the finals. Last year they were successful in Croke Park and captured the division 3 Corn Chumann na nGael cup.

Our Lady's Grove and St Mary's Booterstown are the other 2 Schools that have reached boys Football finals this year as well as Mount Anville Girls who are playing the Corn  an Chladaigh Cup Final.
