Senior Team draw with Glenariffe in challenge game

A lovely sunny Saturday 24th March saw the senior hurlers play Glenariffe of Antrim in a challenge in Silverpark.  This was an evenly contested game.  Crokes had the better of the first half and led 1-10 to 1-8 at the interval.  The concession of goals that could have been avoided impacted on second half progress and the game finished Crokes 2-14 to Glenariffe’s 3-11.

This was the seniors’ second outing of the year.  Leading lights on the day included full back Dave Mahoney who made some excellent catches and clearances, Declan Browne, Fergal Armstrong, James Burke, Declan McGovern, Eoin Roche and Fergus Garvey, especially in the first half when he kept up a good supply to the inside forwards.

Team:

MacDara O’hOgain, Fergus Monnelly, Dave Mahoney,  Ray Mangan, Kieran Murphy, Declan Browne,  Eoin de Paor, Daibhi de Paor, Fergal Armstrong (0-6, f – 5), Cathal Brugha, Fergus Garvey, James Burke (1-2), Michael Dalton, Eoin Roche (1-1), Donal McGovern (0-3).  Subs: Adrian Grogan for Eoin de Paor, Tomas Donohue (0-1) for Cathal Brugha, Niall Lillis for Fergus Monnelly, Brian Motherway (0-1) for Michael Dalton, Hugh Gannon for Daibhi de Paor

Intermediates

In Silverpark on Sunday afternoon the intermediates played Ballyboden in the Corn Ceitinn, a competition won by Crokes in its inaugural year of 1934 and several times since.  Boden opened the scoring with a goal after seven minutes.  Two Adrian Crean frees brought the Stillorgan men back into it before Boden tacked on a minor.  Another Crean free and a good Hugh O’Connor point had levelled matters by the twenty eight minute.  Boden responded with a point before John Ross Hunt’s goal from thirty metres left Crokes 1-4 to 1-2 ahead at the break.

Boden registered the first two points of the second half before Dara Burke pointed a fifty metre free.  Boden replied with three points, two from frees.  Burke put over another free in the forty second minute and in the forty fifth Michael Dalton scored an inspirational point after a good run.  A minute later a Conor Condon delivery to Adrian Crean was sent over by the full forward.  Boden raised another white flag before Crokes completed the scoring.  Conor Condon got the first, a well taken point following a great catch, Dara Burke sent over two frees and Adrian Crean’s sixtieth minute goal, following good combination by Paddy McCormack and Dara Burke, put the icing on the cake.  Dave Canny, Eoin O’Keeffe, Ray Mangan, Conor Condon, Dara Burke, Michael Dalton and Adrian Crean were among those to shine for Crokes.
