Junior 5’s in Eddie Barron Shield Action
A gritty committed performance was not enough to enable the Kilmacud Crokes Junior 5 hurlers avoid defeat in the Eddie Barron Shield away to Whitehall Colmcilles on Thursday 29th March 2007. Applying themselves wholeheartedly to the task in hand Crokes held their own for the first half and were somewhat unfortunate to be 0-4 to 0-1 in arrears at the break.
An early Whitehall goal on the resumption was the start the Kilmacud men could have done without but they nevertheless stuck gamely to the task and by no means did the younger Colmcilles side have it all their own way. On another night several Crokes efforts could have produced greater reward including one effort from Nick Canny which seemed to have goal written all over it only to go just wide.
Prominent for Corkes were goalkeeper Deaglain O’Donnaill, full backs, John McCarthy, Sean McDermott and Billy Condon, Fran Saunders at wing back, centre forward Barry Gavigan and Ian O’Keeffe. Officiating on the line were Brian Murphy and Hugh Liston.
