Weekend report for 21/22 Apr 2007
Minor A's
A good start but lots still to do. That is the Crokes Minor A hurling championship story after an impressive opening round win against Na Fianna at Moibhi Road on Sunday 22nd April 2007.
Eoin Culligan opened the Kilmacud account with an early point to which the home team immediately responded in kind. A Mark Coughlan finish to the net shortly after put daylight between the teams. From then on Crokes stretched the lead point by point against an out of sorts Na Fianna team, for which it must be said little went right. By half time Crokes were 2-7 to 0-2 ahead with Conor Clinton impressive at midfield. Barry O’Rorke’s point in the third minute of the second half was just the start Crokes needed and while Na Fianna also got a point a minute later Crokes resumed the pattern of the first half with nine more points to Na Fianna’s 34th minute point and 50th minute goal. Apart from the aforementioned, impressive for Crokes were Shane McNicholas, the O’Loughlins, Rob and Kevin, Ronan Walsh, the hard working, Barra O’Liadhain and Niall Butler, who took some great scores.

Minor B's
Meanwhile in Silverpark the Minor B’s went down quite unfortunately by a single point to Whitehall Colmcilles. Trailing 3-4 to 0-8, after dominating the opening period, Crokes really took the game to the visitors in the second half and drew level with moments to go only to see a late Whitehall point deny them (3-6 to 0-14). Prominent for a Crokes team that played some very good hurling on the day were Sean McGrath, Alan McPhilips, Killian Caffrey, Naomhan O’Riordan and Killian Motherway.

Junior 5's
Sunday evening pitted the Crokes Junior 5’s against Civil Service in the Eddie Barron Shield at Silverpark. An even first half saw Crokes trailing 1-4 to 1-1 at the break. A 32nd minute Service goal made the task more difficult and though Crokes replied with a point within five minutes the visitors thereafter pulled away to win 3-12 to 2-3.
Seniors win in Kilkenny
On Saturday the seniors travelled to Muckalee in Kilkenny and came away with a 1-15 to 0-16 victory in a hard fought challenge game. Crokes led 0-10 to 0-5 at half time with Paul Broderick contributing three points.
