Week ending 2nd March 2008
Youngsters Get Going!
On Saturday morning the spotlight was on the younger teams. The under 8’s had their first ever official outings against Naomh Olafs in Oatlands and Erins Isle in Finglas. The under 9’s travelled to Raheny in the three team league and to Pairc Ui Bhriain in the one team league. In the three team league, the under 10’s entertained Naomh Olafs in Oatlands and, in the two team league, Faughs at Deerpark. The under 11’s won their two away games against Raheny. A year up, the under 12’s won their two home games against Ballyboden.
Under 12's triumph against round Towers
The other under 12 team went to Moyle Park to take on Round Towers. In difficult windy conditions they came away with the spoils. With the wind Crokes led 2-1 to 0-2 at the break, with forwards Andrew Liffey, Matthew Redmond, Niall Sweeny, Colin Smyth and Hubert Barry causing the Clondalkin defence all sorts of bother. On the resumption midfielders Daniel Coakley and Ruairi Geraghty continued their dominance. By this stage Kevin Culligan had moved outfield to good effect while defenders, Robert Cahill, Fionn Donnelly, Killian O’Shea, Syed Rizvi and Sean Crowe answered all questions asked of them to help their team to a 4-2 to 2-3 victory.
Under 13's take on Castleknock and Skerries
On Saturday afternoon the under 13A’s travelled to Porterstown and defeated Castleknock 5-4 to 1-3. The under 13B’s went to Skerries to play a strong local Harps team and had to bend the knee.

Under 16's suffer late setback v Crumlin
In Silverpark the concession of a late goal allowed Crumlin take the points by a 4-6 to 2-10 margin in the under 16 league. To see photos of this game click HERE or on image.
Under 14's travel to Offaly
On Sunday the under 14’s travelled to Mount Bolus in Offaly to play Kilcormac-Killoughey in a challenge. Unfortunately the home side were short a number of regulars for their first outing of the year and the game was not as competitive as it might have been. However, we are very grateful to our hosts for their wonderful hospitality and look forward to a return visit.
Squad:
C MacGabhann, P O’Shea, D Corish, CJ O’Dwyer, C O’Dywer, L O’Sullivan, M Geraghty, R Murphy, J Murphy, M McNicholas, C Conway, N Gorey, C Gormley, D Keane, C Devins, B Horan, T Barry, M Collins, H Gowing, M O’Loughlin, M O’Dwyer
Junior Bs and Junior 5's in action
Sunday morning had the two junior teams in action. The Junior B’s went down 2-10 to 2-4 to Clontarf in St Annes in the Doyle Cup. In the Eddie Barron Shield the Junior 5’s had to give way to Na Fianna in Silverpark after a well fought encounter. The final scoreline of 3-7 to 2-7 was greatly influenced by the visitors’ late first half scoring spree that yielded three goals. Nevertheless Crokes fought well but were somewhat let down by wayward shooting in the second half. Best for the home side were Deaglain O’Donaill, Niall McIntyre, John McCarthy, Hugh Liston and Ian O’Keeffe.
Under 15 triumph over Sylvesters
There was better news at juvenile level with the under 15’s 2-15 to 1-3 victory over St Sylvesters in Silverpark. With first half wind advantage, Crokes went two or three early points ahead. A good spell between the fifteenth and twentieth minutes put Crokes 0-8 to 0-1 clear with Barry O’Farrell and Jamie Clinton to the fore. As Crokes were 0-10 to 0-1 ahead at the short whistle, a thirty third minute goal from Justin Cassidy effectively decided the game. Among the Kilmacud team’s best were Emmet Doherty, Sean Boyd, Alex Pilkington, Barry O’Farrell, Jamie Clinton and Justin Cassidy.
Intermediates overcome St Finians in Corn Ceitinn
The weekend was nicely capped at Rivervalley on Sunday afternoon when the intermediates overcame St Finians in An Corn Ceitinn, a competition won on six occasions by the club (see HERE for Roll of Honour) Crokes started well and raced into a five point lead with three frees from Dara Burke and points from Brendan Hoyne and Diarmuid Howley. By half time, the hosts had made it five points each. Two early second half goals put it up to the visitors who were equal to the task. Dara Burke’s forty fifth minute goal brought them back into the game and three unanswered brought them level. A fifty third minute peach of a goal from Brian Sheehan and three late points gave the visitors a 2-12 to 2-9 well deserved victory. Crokes stars included Aidan McCarthy, the entire full back line of Shane McNicholas, Hugh O’Connor and Dave Canny, Brendan Hoyne, Brian Sheehan and Dara Burke.
