Week Ending 15th March 2009
On Saturday afternoon, 14th March 2009, in Silverpark, a strong central spine of Fergus Garvey, Declan Browne, Conor Sheehan, John Ross Hunt and Donal McGovern guided Crokes to a 5-8 to 3-8 Corn Ceitinn win over a Setanta.
Against the strong breeze the visitors were a point up within 30 seconds. A Donal McGovern goal put the home side ahead but this was soon cancelled out by a Setanta major. Shortly afterwards the Ballymun outfit were 1-2 to 1-0 clear. Crokes then took over and led 2-5 to 1-4 at the break. Given the strength of the wind this was not a big lead. Within four minutes of the restart came the game’s crucial score when Shane Canny found the net. When Patrick Byrne pulled for a goal in the fifty second minute the Kilmacud lads were 5-7 to 1-7 to the good. Late goals from Setanta put a better gloss on the result from their point of view.
Team (13 a side): R Tighe, A Hopkins, F Garvey, D Monnelly, D Browne (1-1, f 1-1), C Brugha, C Sheehan (0-2), C Duggan, K Motherway (0-1), JR Hunt, S Canny (1-0), B Sheehan (0-1, f-1), D McGovern (2-3). Subs: Niall Byrne, Patrick Byrne (1-0), D Staunton, H Byrne, H O’Connor.
Saturday morning saw the teams from under 12 down take the field. The two under 12 Division 1 Cup teams faced each other in Deerpark with the 1’s prevailing 7-5 to 1-2. Éiríonn thar barr le Coláiste Eoin arís, faoi dhó!
On the schools front it was a good week for Colaiste Eoin. Wednesday saw them capture the Leinster Senior B championship with a 2-12 to 1-7 victory over Colaiste Eanna. For report see HERE
On Friday they defeated the same opposition in the Dublin Junior semi final by 4-17 to 2-08. This was a surprisingly comfortable win against a strong Coláiste Eanna team. The scoreline probably didn’t reflect the closeness of the game but Coláiste Eoin took their chances well, despite some excellent goalkeeping by Coláiste Éanna. Go n-éirí go geal leo sa chraobh!
Crokes contributed strongly to both teams and our congratulations to all concerned. The Crokes contingent on the Junior Team included Oisin O Ruairc, Cian MacGabhainn, Odhrán O Siochrú, Donal O Cathain, Dara O Gallchobhair, Edward Campion, Cathal Keane-Breslin, Donncha O Murchú, Adam O Néill
Punchestown Corporate Race Day
The new Hurling Arena in Glenalbyn was built at a cost of €500,000 and is a huge addition to hurling in the club. It is entirely funded by the Hurling Section and we still have some way to go.
Our sixth annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Corporate Race Day takes place in Punchestown on Tuesday 28th April 2009 and proceeds go towards the cost of the Arena. The event has gone from success to success and bookings are now being taken. Donations or spot prizes remain very welcome. Please contact Paul Gorman, Hurling Section, Commercial Officer, 0872865901 or Paul.Gorman@Pioneerinvest.ie
Hurling Mentors Night
On Friday night some 65 mentors attended the Kilmacud Crokes Hurling mentors dinner where the guest of honour was our own Richard Stakelum now part of the Dublin senior hurling management. Our thanks to Hurling Committee Social Officer Billy Noctor and his work group for putting the show together. Parental Assistance
We appeal to all parents of the new group to offer assistance in any way possible. No previous coaching experience is required and even periodic help is better than none at all. The success of the club relies on volunteers and it is a great way of getting to know other parents. If you are willing to offer any assistance in any capacity, whether it be coaching, roll, setting up pitches, tidying up pitches, etc. etc. please contact any of the following:

Quote from Parent
“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved. And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career! Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
