Report for week ending 18 October 2009
Competitive action was thinner on the ground than in recent weeks. Star billing goes to the minors who successfully negotiated the A championship semi final hurdle against St Judes in Silverpark on Sunday morning 18th October 2009.
Crokes had the better of the opening period and led 0-8 to 0-2 at the short whistle. The second half was a complete transformation as the Spawell outfit thundered back into the game. By the thirty eight minute they had four points on the board to one for Crokes. In the forty second minute Sean McGrath scored his ninth point and it was 0-10 to 0-6. The respite was short lived. Within seven minutes the lead was down to a single point, 0-10 to 0-9. Crokes registered two minors before a fifty seventh minute point for Judes. Two minutes later McGrath converted his ninth placed ball of the hour. At 0-13 to 0-10 it looked like the hosts had done enough but four minutes injury time, in which the visitors brought their total to 0-12, left little room for relaxation and it was a relieved Kilmacud team that heard the final whistle, 0-13 to 0-12 to the good. Apart from McGrath Crokes had impressive performers in goalkeeper Eoin Dalton, corner backs Paul Collins and Enda Grogan and Jude Sweeny up front. For report check back later.
Contemporaneously, at Silverpark 2 the Under 14’s played out their own drama against Na Fianna in Division 1 of the league. With the league title already in the bag, perhaps the Crokes boys were a bit lackadaisical in the first half and trailed 3-6 to 0-8 at half time. Encouraging or similar words at half time worked the oracle and after a score fest of a second half the game ended 4-13 apiece. For report see HERE .
Down in Glenalbyn the under 9 tournament was in full swing with eight teams taking part, Kilmacud Crokes 1, Kilmacud Crokes 2, Erins Own Castlecomer (Kilkenny), James Stephens (Kilkenny), Naomh Eanna (Wexford), Erins Isle, Whitehall Colmcilles and Naomh Meanog (all Dublin). After a great day’s hurling, the Martin Lacey sponsored Millennium Cup (for boys born 2000 or later), was won by Erins Own who defeated Naomh Eanna in the final. The Shield final was won by one of the Crokes teams after a ding dong battle with James Stephens. For report on the tournament check back later.
We also had other visitors on Sunday, Realt na Mara from Ballygarret, Co. Wexford against whom we fielded at under 8 and under 10 at Oatlands and under 12 at Deerpark.
On Saturday there was a full younger age programme with the following results:
U8 hurling Group 1 (3 team) Kilmacud Crokes 1 30 Clontarf 4
U8 hurling Group 1 (3 team) Kilmacud Crokes 2 23 Clontarf 7

The under 12 results conspired to see Kilmacud Crokes 1 and Kilmacud 2 topping the Division 1 league going into the last few rounds of games. Hot on their tails are Na Fianna and Naomh Barrog. For coming November fixtures see HERE
It was a particularly significant day for the under 7s as they took to the field for the first time to represent their club in Naomh Olaf's for a series of games over 90 minutes. For report see HERE
On Wednesday 14th October 2009 St Benildus annexed the Dublin Colleges under16A crown with a 5-10 to 4-6 victory over Ardscoil Ris at O’Toole Park with several Crokes players starring. For report click on the link on the left. Colaiste Eoin were less fortunate on Tuesday 13th October 2009 when they went down to Kilkenny CBS in the Leinster A under 16 semi final.

Monster Draw
Like every other group in the club, the club executive is strapped for funds and has initiated a fundraising effort to get the money needed to pay for ongoing pitch maintenance. The hurling club has been allocated a quota of tickets to sell as part of this initiative. Essentially it is a monster draw scheduled for 27th November 2009 and 26th February 2010 with a prize fund of €100,000 on each occasion. Tickets for both draws together cost €100 or €50 per draw. In all there are 940 prizes. Tickets are available for €100 each & if you wish to purchase a ticket, please contact any hurling mentor or member of the hurling committee.
