Report Week Ending 18th July 2010
When Dublin claimed their second Leinster Under 21 crown in four years with a 2-15 to 0-15 win over Wexford in Parnell Park on Wednesday 14th July 2010 another six provincial medals came to the club. The Dubs trailed 0-8 to 0-7 at half time and hit the front for the first time thanks to an individual goal from Daire Plunkett on fifty one minutes. Crokes men Ronan Walsh, Rob O’Loughlin, Conor Clinton and Barry O’Rorke all played their part with O’Rorke’s spells at midfield paying particular dividends. Kevin O’Loughlin and Rory O’Carroll were also part of the panel under the management of another Crokes man, Richard Stakelum. Well done and congratulations to all involved. Dublin face Galway on Saturday, August 21st, in the All-Ireland semi-final. For more see HERE. It was not such a good day for Niall Corcoran and the Dublin seniors on Saturday as they went down 1-17 to 0-19 to an injury time point against Antrim in the All-Ireland qualifier series at Croke Park. For report see HERE
On the home front the seniors had a good 0-17 to 1-10 win over St Vincents at Silverpark on Friday 16th July 2010. Despite conceding a goal after twenty seconds Crokes were 0-8 to 1-4 ahead at the break and powered home with three late unanswered points. For report see HERE. The game was followed by a well attended and most enjoyable table quiz in the club bar in aid of the injury fund with Chris Thompson as question master.
The week opened on Monday evening with a 1-5 apiece draw for the Junior E’s in AHL8 against Civil Service in Silverpark. Crokes led 1-3 to 0-4 at half time. Most prominent were Shane O’Keeffe, Neal Martin and Emmet Doherty.
Sunday 18th July 2010 took the under 16’s to the impressive four pitch facility of St Aidans in Ferns for a challenge against Rapparrees of Enniscorthy. The game was refereed by former Wexford star and Rapparrees manager, Declan Ruth. Playing against the wind the South Dublin lads went into the break 0-6 to 0-3 in the lead. The second half was well contested until the closing stages. With ten minutes left Crokes held an 0-9 to 0-7 advantage. They then added a series of points and a long threatened goal from full forward Barry Horan to close out the game 1-11 to 0-7. From 1 to 15 the Crokes team performed well with under 15’s Edward Campion, Michael O’Dwyer, Odhran O’Siochru, Ciaran McIntyre and substitute Sean Bedford well up to the pace. Under 14 Daniel Coakley also showed well.
