Week Ending 29th August 2010

We’re back in full swing.  On the cusp of a hectic coming week featuring the Meteor Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens on Saturday 4th September and championship ties for the seniors on Wednesday 1st (v O’Tooles) and Sunday 5th (v St Vincents) most underage teams were in action

Saturday was busiest.  The under 8’s were pipped by a last minute point in the final of the Naomh Eanna tournament in Gorey.  For report see HERE.  Kilmacud Crokes 1 under 12’s won their group in the annual Leinster under 12 tournament on score difference following a draw with Na Fianna.  Both teams defeated Barrow Ranges the other team in the group.  Kilmacud Crokes 2 were away in a group hosted by Thomas Davis

Other underage teams travelled for challenges.  The under 9’s travelled to Cork to play Sarsfields with 22 players and did well winning three of four games.  The under 13’s went to Tipperary.  After a good game they emerged 6-12 to 0-15 winners over Drom and Inch at the Ragg.  Up 3-3 to 0-5 at half time, they added 3-9 into the wind in the second half.  Most prominent were Adam Tuck, Johnny Maher, Fiachra O’Connor and Conn O’Cleirigh.

The under 16’s were in Cork where they overcame Blackrock by 7-8 to 5-7.  A blistering start paved the way for victory.

Team:

N Gorey, S Bedford, C O’Dwyer, A Coclough, L O’Sullivan, C Devins, E Campion, C Conway, M Geraghty, T Barry, D Keane, C Gormley, R McGowan, B Horan, CJ O’Dwyer.  Subs:  R Geraghty for D Keane, A Ahern for C Gormley, H Barry for R McGowan, C Gormley for CJ O’Dwyer.

On Thursday the two under 13 teams played League Division 1 games.  KC1 beat Ballyboden 4-12 to 1-3 at Hermitage while KC2 overcame Fingallians by 4-12 to 2-4 away.  Two days earlier the under 14A’s accounted for Cuala in Divison 1 at Silverpark.

Meteor Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens

The Sevens, now in its 38th year, is recognised as the launching pad for the All-Ireland Hurling weekend and a great opportunity to see some of the best hurling stars in the country showcase their talents in Stillorgan.  For the club it is a case of all hands on deck.  From  Wednesday evening the 1st   September and all day Thursday and Friday the 2nd and 3rd we will be preparing pitches at Silverpark, Oatlands College, Benildus College/Naomh Olafs, Deerpark and Glenalbyn.  If you are in a position to lend a hand please just turn up.  We will also need help with gates, administration and many other tasks on the day itself.  All volunteers welcome.

The Sevens is crucial in financing hurling within the club for the year.  One of the chief sources of revenue is advertisements in the official programme.  In what has been a tough financial year if you can source an ad we would be delighted to hear from you.  All the money goes back to the Hurling Section and funds teams. As the print deadline is looming we would appreciate hearing as soon as possible.  The costs are full page colour €900. ½ page colour €500. Full page b/w €700 and ½ page b/w €400.  For more on how Kilmacud Crokes Hurling is financed see HERE

Following the press launch on Tuesday 24th August 2010 we received great positive exposure in both print and broadcast media (see HERE).
