Report Week Ending 27th February 2011
The cobwebs are slowly being dusted off as the hurling year gets into gear. On Sunday 27th February 2011 Dublin claimed its fifth Walsh Cup and first silverware under Anthony Daly with a 2-17 to 2-13 win over Kilkenny at Parnell Park. The Crokes trio of Niall Corcoran, Conor Clinton and Ryan O’Dwyer played starring roles. For Irish Examiner report see HERE. This followed on the Saturday 19th February Allianz NHL 1-16 to 1-15 win over All-Ireland champions Tipperary at Croke Park.
On the club front both minor teams had opening wins in their leagues on Sunday 27th February 2011. The A’s were untroubled at Silverpark when romping home against Faughs in Division 1 by 5-22 to 1-5. The backs had little to do. Matthew Geraghty went well at midfield. Right half forward Ken Kelly accounted for many points while corner forwards Alex Pilkington scored three and Oisin O’Rorke scored two goals.
The B’s Division 3 away game against Erins Isle was a tighter affair before the points came Southside on a 2-7 to 0-8 scoreline. For report see HERE
The under 14’s were also active recently with challenges v James Stephens (Sunday 20th February 2011) and O’Loughlin Gaels (Thursday 24th February 2011).
On Sunday 20th Feb 2011 in Corn Fogarty Crokes lost out to Good Counsel by eight points at Galtymore Road.
The Dublin Spring Series consists of a number of attractive fixtures in hurling, football and camogie during February, March and April in Croke Park.
