Saturday 15th July saw Kilmacud Crokes host it’s inaugural under 10 Festival of Camogie in Benildus. Biblical Downpours. Brilliant Camogie. We Welcomed teams from all around the Country. Every province was represented. Kilmacud Crokes, our neighbours and friends Naomh Olaf along with St Sylvesters from Malahide. They came from Greystones and Gorey, Eire Og and Naomh Eanna. Duffry Rovers also travelled from Wexford. Dicksboro from Kilkenny. The Banner’s St Joseph’s Doora Barefield, Craughwell from the West and our special friends from Slaughtneil, made the near four hour trek from Derry.

The weather was atrocious and had already resulted in the transfer to the all weather facilities and hall in Benildus.

But every team arrived. Every club was represented and paraded and piped onto the field.

Spirit. Resilience. Skill. Resolve. Friendship. Fun.

Every team had four matches. Each game hotly and fairly contested. A chance for own players to showcase their talent and experience and witness the skills and gameplay of the other girls and clubs.

A wonderful experience for all. Learnings and laughter.

We were blessed to have the hall in Benildus for the day of deluge that was in it. It was an oasis and refuge offering respite from the rain over the course of day. And became a centre of chaos and laughter for the medal ceremony, disco and impromptu ‘rock the boat’ and conga line. With all the girls getting involved. Smiles and memories the order of the day.

The first festival of camogie. Certainly not the last. A new benchmark and beachhead for the camogie community to grow and build from further.

Well done and thanks to all the teams and players. Our amazing referees and on the day volunteer. Míle Buíochas to Benildus for facilitating us at late notice and to the amazing organising committee.

Sunshine booked for 2024!
