Under 10's matches 2nd June 2012

Under 10 Panel A
Only two teams lined out this morning against O'Tooles with numbers down on both sides because of the bank holiday weekend. Nonetheless a feast of hurling unfolded in sunny Deerpark. Team 1, under the careful eyes of Brendan Scanlon and Brian Tracey, were in no mood for holiday hand-outs and got stuck in from the start. It remained tight initially nonetheless, with Rory O'Mahony and John McEntee working hard to close down the northsiders. In the second half, however, Brendan Scanlon Jnr and Kyle Carragher started to shine with Luke O'Kelly, Charlie Owens and David Tracey all pulling their weight. They ran out comfortable winners in the end 3-11 to 0-2.

Team 2 also took some time to break down the staunch O'Tooles defence. With Dara O'Mahony in charge on the sideline, however, their quick-fire ground hurling started to tell. In time, Ian Farnan worked a couple of excellent goals while Tomas Monaghan and Jack Reddy covered up tirelessly in defence. Young Niall O'Mahony was solid in goals in the second half and a clever puck out allowed Ben Marnell add a point to his earlier goals. Fionn O'Connor and Jamie Balmaine harried and hassled throughout and in the end Crokes were deserved winners, 5-1 to 2-0.

Under 10 Panel B
Team 1 – KC 3 – 7 Faughs – 2 - 4 KC won by 10 pts
Team 2 – KC 4 – 3 Faughs – 3-3 This is estimated but KC won by 1 pt

Report from the U10 Ballyboden Blitz Saturday 2nd June PM

The Under 10s followed up their morning go-games with a trip to Ballyboden's 4 way 12-a-side blitz in the afternoon. Cuala, Naas and the hosts themselves made up the opposition. First up was the strong squad from Naas and despite dominating the game at times and strong goal-keeping from Naoise MacConghail, Crokes were unlucky to lose out in the end. Cuala were next and our boys had now found their stride. They ran our comfortable winners with excellent points from Brendan Scanlon and John McEntee and staunch defending from Rory O'Mahony providing the stand out moments. The final match against the home team started well and a couple of fine frees from Robert O'Donovan kept us in the game but a late surge from Ballyboden saw the boys disappointed of a final place. However Dara O'Mahony and Brendan Scanlon Snr had no problem motivating the boys for one last tip at Cuala for the 3rd place play off. And with Michael Nealon, Charlie Owens and Luke O'Kelly staunch in defence and Patrick O'Sullivan, Ben Marnell and Joseph Neary trying hard up front, Cuala were out-classed in the end. Special mention to young Niall O'Mahony and the even younger James Neary who stepped in like seasoned pros to cover a couple of late withdrawals from the panel.
