Crokes lose by narrowest of margins

The Junior A team played their fourth championship match of the season on Saturday evening, 9 June 2012,  in Silverpark against Ballyboden.

It was a lovely evening for hurling and, playing with the breeze, we were quickly out of the blocks. Jonathan caught the first high ball in and scored a fine point. This was added to shortly after by Conor with another point. We allowed Boden to come back into it; however good play from Darren at centre back led to Michael Dalton being fouled and Richie scoring from the free. The rest of the first half was nip and tuck. However just before half time Boden scored a goal, to leave the score Crokes 0-06 to Boden 1-06 at half time.

From the start of the second half we drove at Boden and immediately score a fine goal from Richie. We then took the lead, with a point from Matthew, which was quickly equalised by Boden.  Soon after we went ahead, with a goal from Conor from close in, to put us ahead. Again Boden came back at us, but with five minutes left we were two points up. Then disaster struck, with Boden stealing in for a goal (a la D.J. Carey against Clare some years ago) to put them a point up. Crokes threw everything into getting the equaliser but it didn’t happen. The final score was Kilmacud Crokes 2-08, Ballyboden St Endas 2-09.

This makes our last match against Craobh Chiaran a “must win” game if we are to qualify for the quarter finals.
