Castleknock 1-11 : Kilmacud Crokes 2-07
We made our way out to Porterstown on Sunday morning to play league leaders Castleknock in round 8 of the football league. Conditions were good with just a slight breeze to contend with. Crokes got off to a good start and after 20 minutes led 2-02 to 0-04. This lead could have been greater but a number of good chances were squandered. The final 10 minutes of the first half saw Castleknock come more into the game and they added 2 points to their total leaving the half time score 2-02 to 0-06.
Castleknock started the second half in determined fashion and by the 37th minute led 1-09 to 2-02. At this stage Crokes were in trouble as Castleknock were winning all the breaking ball and the game was been played in the Crokes half. However a couple of timely forays up the field saw the gap reduced to 2 points. The game was now being played at a great pace and with 7 minutes to go the gap was down to one point. Try as Crokes did they could not get that equalising point. The last attack of the game saw the ball come back off the Castleknock upright resulting in a narrow win for the home team. While it is always disappointing to lose a match the boys played really well and on another day could have taken the 2 points against the league leaders.
