U15A Football – Kilmacud Crokes v Skerries Harps
Crokes made the long journey out to Skerries on Sunday morning last to play Round 7 of the U15A league against the local club. These 2 clubs has played twice last year with the first game ending in a draw and Crokes gaining a narrow victory in the second encounter. Crokes lost the toss and played into a strong breeze in the first half. However they were quickly on the score sheet and after 7 minutes led 1-01 to 0-01. Crokes continued to take the game to their opponents and with 20 minutes gone were leading 1-04 to 0-02. At this stage the Crokes defence was on top and the midfield and forwards were moving the ball quickly resulting in the scoreboard going in the right direction. Crokes got goals in the 21st and 25th minute which meant they went in at half time with a commanding lead 3-05 to 0-04.
With the breeze behind Crokes in the second half the expectation was that they would build on this lead. However Skerries were much more competitive in the second half and scores were hard to come by. Crokes competed for every ball and never looked like conceding a goal which Skerries needed to get them back into the game. In the end Crokes were deserving winners on a score of 3-09 to 0-07.
That result keeps Crokes well placed in the league just 1 point behind the leaders with a trip to Castleknock next on the agenda on April 24th.
