Féíle experience of the U14B's

No silverware, but great experience for young Crokes hurlers

The Kilmacud Crokes U14B hurlers travelled across to the Navan Road last Saturday to participate in Group A of the Division 4 Feile na nGael. The team were unlucky not to earn a semi-final spot when a last minute shot against St Peregrines hit the post and was cleared to safety – thereby resulting in a two point loss at the final whistle (2-01 to 0-09). The team also lost out to hosts Naomh OP/ER (5-06 to 1-02) but earned a very creditable win against Na Fianna (0-12 to 1-06). Below are just two of the players experience from the day

Sitting in the dressing room, shoulder to shoulder with my team mates Joe Dalton gave us inspirational and motivational encouragement.  With our eyes closed we were instructed to think about our best matches, getting to the ball first, gripping the hurl tightly in our hands as our opponent gave chase, close behind us as we headed for goal.

We went out to our first match fired up and ready for a tense game.  We got stuck in from the first whistle and felt robbed of our win by two points as the final ball destined for goal struck the post and was quickly cleared by well readied Peregrines defence.

Our 2nd game, against Oliver Plunkett’s was more challenging and we failed to hold back a strong Plunkett’s side.  Our final game was against Na Fianna and we were determined to go out of the Feile with a win. We showed great determination and our hard work paid off.  I would like to thank the parents and all our coaches for their support and training.

My Feile experience was one of great fun which ended with disappointment.

I feel that it was a great day and was great fun to be involved in.  In the first game we were very unfortunate not to get the win; it was the bounce of the ball.  The parents and mentors contributed greatly to the day with food drinks and coaching.  The whole team played with great passion and determination but luck just wasn’t on our side. I would like to thank all involved for making the feile a day to remember.  It was a great day to be part of; unfortunately we didn’t make it further by qualifying.
