Féile Team snatch late victory v Lucan

Body

dog070414_u14_Lucan10.jpgOn a fantastic day for hurling with glorious sunshine, our U14's took on Lucan who had beaten them well in a challenge match at the end of February. We had the hope of turning the tables but were missing a few with injuries and holidays.

Crokes commenced the match with a favourable wind and the match started with both teams fighting hard for possession and very few scoring oppurtunities allowed. Our defence worked hard and gave an excellent display along with the usual good diplay of goalkeeping by Paddy Tighe. Crokes struck first with a point. Lucan were successful in hooking Crokes players a number of times and the first half ended with Crokes not making full use of the favourable breeze only one point up at 0-3 to 0-2. The return of Cian Delaney after a many months was very welcome with evidence of practice during that time.

The Second half saw Lucan put Crokes under pressure and giving away too many frees. The welcome addition of some of the U13 squad on the Feile panel in the 2nd half gave a boost to the forward line.Lucan however notched up a few points without reply and a goal gave them a 1-6 lead to 0-4 with 10 minutes to go.Great defensive work and good fortune that Lucan missed a couple of frees kept us going. With five minutes to go we continued to fight hard for possession. Two high balls into the forward line finally paid dividends and Justin Cassidy duly caught both and knew what was required; 2 goals in the dying minutes gave us a thrilling one point win. Final Score Kilmacud Crokes 2-4 : Lucan Sarsfields 1-6.

The benefits of a training camp over the Easter Holidays seemed to improve the first touch of a number of players.
