Minor B's lose out to Sylvesters in League
The Minor B's headed into their sixth game of the league against St Sylvester's on the back of 3 successive wins
A beautiful sunny morning up in Silverpark, excellent conditions for hurling. The opening ten minutes was a tight affair, with both sides trading three points each, Mikey Crowley, scoring all of Croke's three points. Then Crokes took control of the game and for the next fifteen minutes scored two goals (two fine individual efforts from Conor Gowing and Tom Duke) and two further points from Mikey, giving Crokes a commanding eight point lead. But Sylvester's did not give up and in the dying seconds of the half, added a goal and a point to narrow their deficit. At the half time whistle, Crokes had a four point lead, with a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-4.
In the second half, Sylvester's continued where they had left off and over the opening seven minutes added another goal and three points, while Crokes remained scoreless. Crokes then woke up and over the next fifteen minutes added a Mikey goal and nine points (4 from Mikey & one each from Barney, Cathal, Conor & Eoin) while limiting Sylvesters to three points. This put Crokes into a commanding seven point lead with sevens minutes remaining. But, once again Sylvester's bounced back and scored two quick goals and added another three points, while Crokes failed to score. At the final whistle, Sylvester's were deserved winners by two points. While the better team won on the day, Crokes failed to convert their possession into scores from play and did not give the kind of performance and work rate expected and thus paid the price. In a high scoring game, both sides produced some excellent hurling but in the end Crokes lost 3-14 to 4-13.
The next game is six weeks away, when we travel away to Ballyboden
The Minors now have a break for a few weeks, as focus shifts to the Leaving Certificate examinations. We wish all the lads every success and the best of luck in their endeavours during the exams.
