Match Report/ Match Highlights:
Under 15 Hurlers – Secure top 4 playoffs
The Crokes Under 15 Hurlers trooped off to Benevin College in Finglas, to face Erins Isle, who had only been beaten once in the league this year. Despite a high number of wides, Crokes eventually ran out winners to maintain their unbeaten league run.
Crokes opened brightly, but seemed to have left their scoring hurls at home and after a few left offs, it was Isles who opened the score with a well taken point in the fourth minute. Crokes had to wait until the 8th minute to open their tally, when Seanie McGrath converted a free and Naomhan took his first point of the day thirty seconds later. Jamie added a converted free in the 17th minute, but Isles reduced Crokes’ lead to a point when they converted a free in the 19th minute. Crokes then upped their game and added a Naomhan goal, and three points from a Seanie free and one each from Eoin and Jamie. At half time, Crokes held a lead of 1-06 to 0-02.
At half time, Daibhi reminded the lads that Isles always score a couple of goals against us in the second half and challenged them to keep a clean sheet. Crokes continued as they finished the first half and over the opening ten minutes extended their lead by four points, one from Jamie, two from Johnny and one from Naomhan. Isles battled hard and defended with discipline and limited Crokes to a further two Seanie points. Isles added a converted 65 in the 12th minute, a converted free in the 19th minute and then got a goal in the 22nd minute. Isles finished the second half scoring with a point in the 26th minute.
In the end Crokes ran out winners with a 1-12 to 1-05 margin. Although never really pushed, it was a lack lustre performance from the forwards, but the backs played very well and it was an important win. The next outing is against St Vincents in the league on the 15th August ’06.
