2012 Girls – Summer Camogie Crokes on Tour to St Martins, Wexford
On Saturday 26th July Kilmacud Crokes 2012 girls group went on its second bus tour of the year for a mini GoGame style summer hurling blitz.
St.Martins Camoige, Wexford were wonderful hosts for the blitz which included Crokes and Naomh Mhuire Rosslare girls. The blitz provided an excellent opportunity for the girls to demonstrate their brand of skilful competitive camoige excellent grass pitches in ideal summer hurling conditions.
As usual the bus trip was a highlight with much debate over seating arrangements up front and a constant buzz of excitement and chat for the full journey there and back. We were warmly received and hosted at St Martins by Marie O’Connor.
Every team played 3 matches. Each game was competitive and fairly contested with an excellent supportive side line atmosphere fostered by all clubs. This was an excellent chance for our players to showcase their talent and experience and witness the skills and gameplay of the St Martins and Naomh Mhuire, Rosslare girls and test themselves with the skills they have learned over the past 6 years.
And as usual, the girls managed to surprise us with a spontaneous rendition of Amhran na bhFiann given by all the group on 1 knee before the games started. Inspiring…
A big thank you to the parents and coaches of St Martins Camoige who, apart from hosting us and making us very welcome, put on an amazing lunch reception for us after the game with copious amounts of fruit, cakes, sandwiches, pastries, juices, teas and coffees. Everyone was very well set-up for the rest of the day.
The girls then took the opportunity to get a photo with star of the show - Henry the dog.
Then back on the bus to Glenalbyn where the on field events and learnings were dissected for the first few minutes before the attention turned to more ‘important’ matters. Great memories, new friends, extended community, new experiences, lots of learnings. A great day out all round.
Thanks to all the girls, parents, coaches, organisers who made the day a great success. Crokes Abu !
