Kilmacud Crokes October Festival of Hurling - U9's
Sunday 20 October at Park De Burca saw the third installment of Kilmacud Crokes’ 2013 Festival of Hurling featuring our u9 (2004) hurlers.
The Festival in Kilmacud is a great opportunity to repay the hospitality shown to some of our underage teams on their travels over the year, whilst also giving our young hurlers the opportunity to match up against a variety of clubs from a number of Counties. Despite the heavy rain during the week in Stillorgan the main pitch in Glenalbyn was passed playable on Sunday morning and it was all systems go.
This year the U9 event featured teams from:
- Kilkenny (Kilmacow, O’ Loughlin Gaels x2),
- Tipperary (Durlas Og x2),
- Galway (Cappataggle, Craughwell),
- Cork (Sarsfields x2),
- Clare (Sixmilebridge)
- Limerick (Monaleen x2).
Kilmacud Crokes divided our squad into four even teams, and we had a total of 16 teams spread across 4 groups. A great days hurling was had by all the teams and the standard of hurling was very impressive throughout as all players showcased their skills. The end of year blitz is a great way to celebrate the improvements our players are making in their skills, whilst allowing them measure their progress against teams from around the country.
All 16 teams concluded the day with cross over matches in which everybody got to play a final.
A big word of thanks is due to all who contributed to the organising of the tournament as well as all those parents who helped with running the day by taking on the various jobs as required. Thanks are also due to the parents who provided a great supply of sandwiches, cakes and biscuits to hungry players, parents and supporters throughout the day and to Tom for his magnificent soup.
