U12's win well v Erin's Own, Bagnelstown
A cold sharp morning in the splendidly appointed McGrath Memorial Park, Bagnelstown (Muine Bheag), Co Carlow on 18th March 2006 saw a combined under 12 and under 11 Crokes team overcome our hosts Erin’s Own by a 5-4 to 2-3 margin.
Stand-in goalkeeper Oisín O’Gallchobhair made some early clearances, one of which produced the score of the game when he found Oisín O’Rorke who delivered long to Donal Keane and the corner forward finished brilliantly to the net. Corner backs Andrew Colclough and Cathal Keane-Breslin kept their lines well throughout while full back Conor Sweeny mopped up everything around the square. Wing backs Mark Collins (Captain) and Cian MacGabhann provided excellent support for the dominant Oisín O’Rorke in the centre. Midfielders Matthew Geraghty and Luke Hyland were always on top while half forwards Dara O’Gallchobhair and David Kane kept the inside forwards well supplied. Centre forward Cian Gormley was constantly on the ball and scored a great goal. The full forward line of Eoin Ryall, Tomas Barry and Donal Keane caused their markers no end of trouble while debutants Eamonn Allen (in goal and as a forward) and Ruairi Geraghty (both in attack and defence) were well up to the mark..
After the game the squad proceeded to Carlow for the Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling Final where Kilkenny CBS just overcame a Dublin Colleges side fielding three Kilmacud Crokes players, Ross O’Carroll, Andrew Hopkins, and Shane O’Rorke with Barry O’Rorke as a substitute.
