Under-8's Travel to Oulart (7th May 2007)
The recent good weather may have ended but not before the Under-8's left their mark on Oulart the Ballagh on May Bank Holiday Monday. The travelling party of 19 players, parents and supporters left Glenalbyn before 10am and arrived eager for action in plenty of time for the 12 noon throw-in. After a tentative start, Crokes took the lead with a Harry Doyle goal after four minutes. This was followed by further goals from Harry, Thomas Kehoe, Harry ( again!) and Sean Murnane to put Crokes in an almost unassailable lead as the first half neared an end. There was still time, however, for Dylan Crossan to pop up for the best goal of the half with a rasper from 13 metres out. This left the half-time score 6-0 to 0-0 in favour of the visitors. Just after the break, a heavy shower sent most of the large attendance scurrying for cover. This did not, however, dampen the spirits of the Crokes boys, who continued to fight for every ball. In fairness, the young Oulart hurlers were more competitive in the second half and reduced the arrears with a well taken free after seven minutes. Nonetheless, Crokes kept up the pressure and another goal from Harry was followed by a terrific long range effort from Eoin Barr, which found the net as the fulltime whisle approached.
All the Kilmacud Crokes players played well, including Niall Brady, Hugh Bermingham, Nathan Slattery, Stephen Keegan, Michael Gibbons, Cian Coleman and Stephen Horgan in defence. Paul Buckley and Cathal O'Dwyer dominated midfield while Niall Bezeci, Barry MacGabhann, Cian Mac Donncha, James Dalton and Lorcan O'Connor excelled in attack. This excellent performance, following on good wins against Na Fianna and Crumlin the previous Saturday, augurs well for the future of these enthusiastic u-8's. Credit for this must be given to the management team of Joan Bezeci, Ed Gibbons, Joe O'Connor, Alan Kehoe and Tony Buckley. Well done to all!
