Kilmacud Crokes Senior ‘B’ Hurlers made it two wins from two in their 2nd Round Championship encounter against Naomh Barróg last Saturday evening (4th May) in Silverpark.

The home team imposed themselves early on the game with a pointed 20m free from Eddie Gibbons and a well worked point from Barry O’Rorke before Naomh Barróg opened their account with a point after 5 minutes. Shortly afterwards, Eddie Gibbons rattled the net and followed up with a pointed free before Conor Hayes scored a majestic long-range point to leave Crokes leading 1-4 to 0-1 after 11 minutes.  Although Naomh Barróg scored three of the next four scores – all points, Crokes began to take control with points from Michael Roche and three pointed frees from Eddie Gibbons before Roche scored an excellent goal after 18 minutes to put Crokes ahead 2-8 to 0-4. Between then and half-time exchanges were relatively even as Barry O’Rorke, Michael Roche (from a sideline) and Eddie Gibbons (two from frees and one from play) added points to leave Kilmacud Crokes leading 2-13 to 0-10 at the interval.

The second half opened with two placed ball points – one a 65’ – from Eddie Gibbons to extend Crokes lead before Naomh Barróg began to claw their way back into contention. During this period, however, Michael Roche and Alex Hatt scored two excellent points to leave Crokes leading 2-17 to 0-14 before Naomh Barróg put it up to the home team with a goal eleven minutes from time. It was at this point that Naomán Ó Riordáin stepped up to the plate and cut through the opposition’s defence to send the sliotar over the bar. Three pointed frees from Eddie Gibbons soon followed before Barry Horan put the game beyond reach with a well taken goal. Eddie Gibbons capped a remarkable evening with placed balls – 12 frees and one 65’ – by scoring the last point from a free two minutes from the end to leave Crokes comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-22 to 1-16
