Membership Advisory

As we head towards the end of the year and the membership renewal window for 2025, the Club Executive wanted to inform members of a membership fee increase for next year and the rationale for same.

As you are no doubt aware, the increasing requirement for facilities to enable teams to train and play their games is a major challenge for the club.

The club is lucky to own 3 grass pitches plus the paddock, however given the size of our club this doesn't come anywhere near meeting the needs of our members. We do have some usage supported by the council in Deerpark and Marley, however all additional facilities in use are rented. Members would be aware that over recent years, the Club has added additional pitch capacity without increasing membership fees - including rental of Blackrock rugby club and increasing access to Ballycorus. Since re-developing Páirc de Búrca and adding flood lights to allow increased usage, the Club is incurring additional costs for lighting the pitch. As a consequence of Coláiste Eoin/Íosagáin and Oatlands college pitches being developed into multi-sport facilities (something our club has been hugely supportive of), we have lost significant access in these locations and are paying at a very different level for the hours we have been allocated.

This year, another 230 girls & boys have started in our nursery. As a club we want to be able to welcome everyone who wants to join and we create teams at all grades to enable us to continue with that ethos. We are very proud of the boys and girls and men and women who represent our club at county and higher grade club competitions, but equally proud of the achievements of every single one of our teams and the huge volunteer effort it takes to keep those teams alive and thriving. It does however come at a financial cost.

All of the above, coupled with utility and other running expense increases, results in us not being able to continue running the club as is needed in the years ahead, on the current membership fee structure.

To respond to this, and noting the current membership fees have remained unchanged for several years, the Club Executive has approved an average of a 15% increase across the different membership categories.

Please know, we didn't take the decision lightly as we understand any increase in costs can be difficult for people, however we do hope members understand the rationale.

As is club policy, if anybody is having difficulty in paying their fees they can reach out to the club registrar to discuss a fee arrangement in confidence.

The revised membership rates will soon be updated on the club website.
