Kilmacud Crokes 2015 Feile Camogie Report

Body

We enjoyed a roller-coaster day at the Dublin Féile Division One competition on Saturday 11th April in Ballyboden.  We won two of our three group games, ending up in a 3-way play-off for 2 semi-final spots, losing out narrowly in the end.  While we were disappointed not to make at least the semi-finals, the girls did us proud, particularly with a very impressive win in our third group match. Thanks to the parents, family, friends and Kilmacud Crokes members for their generous & vocal support.  But most importantly well done to the players as we look forward to the remaining league games with a mouth-watering championship to come in this very competitive u14 Division 1.

Match 1 – Kilmacud Crokes 2-7 St. Judes 0-2

A solid all-round display in our first match resulted in a good win against St Judes.

Scorers:  Eily Heffernan 1-0, Kate O’Connor 1-1, Stephanie Galvin 0-2

Anna Geraghty 0-3, Helen Barr 0-1 (long-range free)

Match 2 – Kilmacud Crokes 0-2 Cuala 3-0

Cuala lost their first match so had to win this game to stay in the competition.  Perhaps we were complacent after a recent comprehensive league win over Cuala, but it was a different situation on Saturday – it has to be said Cuala were up for this match, out-fought our girls and deservedly won this game – a disappointing result, so we now had to win our third match!

Scorers:  Stephanie Galvin 0-2 (0-1 free)

Match 3 – Kilmacud Crokes 2-7 St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadha (OPER) 0-5

OPER beat us fairly well in a recent league match and we really needed to step up for this game.  What a response from the girls in a great performance to deliver an excellent win, with some great scores, tenacious defending and real teamwork. This resulted in a 3-way play-off as Cuala won their final match at the same time.

Scorers:  Meadbh O’Gorman 1-2, Sarah Fenlon 0-4 (frees), Cassie Sultan 1-0, Kate O’Connor 0-1

3-way Play-off

We played two 10 minute games.

In the first against Cuala, the rain pelted down and our luck was out - a speculative high ball in from a Cuala midfielder hit the cross-bar, bounced off the back of Niamh’s helmet and ended up crossing the goal-line.  Cruel!

Full time score: KC 0-0   Cuala 1-0

In the second game, the rain eased off and in a tight contest it ended up in a draw.  We needed to win by a clear goal to get through and unfortunately it was not to be!

Full time score: KC 0-2    OPER 0-2

Scorers:  Sarah Fenlon 0-1 (free), Kate O’Connor 0-1
