2012 Press Launch of One Direct Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Sevens
The 40th Annual One Direct Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Senior Hurling Sevens Competition was launched in Croke Park on Tuesday 28th August by Paraic Duffy, Director General of the Gaelic Athletic Association.
the distinguished guests in attendance were Kilkenny legend Eddie Brennan, former Galway great Ollie Canning and Kilmacud Crokes and Dublin outstanding 2012 hurler, Niall Corcoran. Also in attendance were the Kilmacud Crokes representatives on the Dublin Under 21 and Minor Hurling squads.
Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Chairman, Peter Walsh said, “In this landmark year, the 40th Annual occurrence of this event, Kilmacud Crokes is very pleased to announce that our brand new sponsor for this year’s competition is One Direct, one of Ireland’s leading insurance companies. Thanks to their support for this competition, Kilmacud Crokes can continue to showcase the best in club hurling talent in this unique competition. This official All Ireland tournament is one of the most prestigious competitions on the club calendar and top class competitive hurling is guaranteed with over 60 clubs participating”
On behalf of One Direct, the new sponsors for the Sevens, their Managing Director David Egan expressed his delight to be associated with such a renowned event in the national GAA calendar and to commence a great relationship between One Direct and Kilmacud Crokes Hurling. David added “One Direct are keenly aware of the value that GAA clubs bring to their local community which is something that is also important to One Direct. Through our association with An Post we too have a local presence in most towns and villages throughout Ireland where customers can access our services at their local Post Office.”
Walsh added, “I would like to record our thanks to Tom Rock and his team on the One Direct Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling 7’s workgroup. Events of this magnitude require much planning and seriously committed groundwork encompassing team entries, dealing with the media, grounds preparation and much more. The professionalism with which today’s gathering has been organised is an excellent indicator and I can guarantee you the tournament itself will be just as smoothly run. A great hurling day lies in store”.
Peter Walsh continued, “With over 600 players, this year’s event guarantees thrilling action and entertainment for players and supporters alike on the eve of the All-Ireland Hurling Final. There will be over 100 games, a true feast of hurling, with group games beginning at 10.30am and the throw in for the final scheduled for approximately 6.45pm at our home grounds at Glenalbyn in Stillorgan village.”
