AFL2s OVERCOME FIRST HURDLE IN INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Less than 24 hours after watching the Seniors overcome Parnells in the Senior Championship, the AFL2 team started their campaign in the Intermediate championship against Scoil Ui Chonaill in Pairc Barrog and won the encounter emphatically 4:15 to 0:7. Playing with the breeze in the first half, Crokes ruthlessly took control of the game to build up a 2:10 to 2 points half time lead. The defence, marshalled by Fionnan Kennedy and Peter Devitt were very solid. The midfield and half back line were dominant supplying plenty of ball into the rampant forward line.

Conor Murphy proved an excellent target man and Conor Noone, Kevin O’Cearbhaill, Stephen Williams and David Higgins did all the scoring, an impressive 2:9 first half scores from play betweem them. To their credit, Scoil rallied early in the second half with four unanswered points before Cathal Turley and O’Cearbhaill steadied the ship with good scores. Further goals from Turley and half back Cuan O’Flaharta finished off the game.

The management team would like to thank all who supported the team on the day.  Far bigger tests lie ahead of this team in their quest for the Intermediate Championship.  Next up are Southside rivals, Thomas Davis in what should be a cracker - keep an eye on this web-site for match details!
