Emphatic win for Intermediates v Setanta
Kilmacud Crokes chalked up an emphatic win to start their 2007 championship campaign. Setanta started brightly creating chances and getting a couple of early points. After 5 minutes an Eoin Roche goal settled Crokes into a rhythm after he was put into space to drill home from 14 yards. The two teams traded points with Crokes scoring through a super point from Fergus Garvey on the back foot off his left hand side from 60 yards and Eoin Roche came through again for Kilmacud with one from play and another from a free. Leaving the score 1-3 to 0-4 after 20 minutes. On 23 minutes Adrian Crean broke through the Setanta defence to crash one to the roof of the net. This score was immediately followed by points from Mick Dalton & Diarmuid Howley, leaving Crokes in a strong position with 5 minutes to go before half time. Crokes added two more to Setantas one before the break, leaving the half time score 2-7 to 0-5.
At half time the feeling was that if Crokes could weather the first 10 minutes of the second half & break even then they would be well on the way. They more than broke even with three early first half scores coming one each from the best line on the field, a full forward line of Crean, Howley & Roche playing with confidence, using all their experience. Crokes defence remained resolute and in the final quarter Crokes outscored Setanta 0-4 to 0-2. John Ross Hunt coming on to score and Diarmuid Howley giving a captains display at full forward with a hat trick of points in the last quarter. His last point a brilliant one touch control and a flick over the bar with his back to goal.
