Another busy Crokes hurling week, 20 Apr 2007

Body

Tuesday evening 17th April 2007 saw the seniors prevail 1-19 to 2-8 against Faughs in a league game at Silverpark.  Leading 1-8 to 1-4 at half time Crokes pulled away in the second half with impressive performances from newly appointed captain, Fergal Armstrong, Aodhan de Paor, James Burke, Ross O’Carroll and Shane O’Rorke.

Team:

MacDara O’hOgain, Declan Browne, Dave Mahoney, Kieran Murphy, Niall Murphy, Aodhan de Paor, Donal McGovern, Daibhi de Paor, Shane O’Rorke, Fergal Armstrong James Burke, Alan Tiernan, Brian Motherway, Ross O’Carroll, Eoin Roche.  Subs: Hugh Gannon for Brian Motherway, Neil Casey for Eoin Roche, Adrian Grogan, Tomas Donohue, Ray Mangan, Paul Broderick, Fergus Monnelly, Cathal Brugha, Michael Dalton, Paul Graham, Andrew Hopkins.

Under 13's

The same evening one of our under 13A squads hosted neighbours, Cuala, in Deerpark.  A competitive opening half was made sweeter for Crokes when a Barry Horan goal just before the break stretched the lead to 2-2 to 0-3.  Playing with the wind in the second half Crokes withstood early Cuala pressure and growing in confidence ran out 4-6 to 0-5 winners

Minor A's

Wednesday brought a double header in Silverpark with the minor A’s accounting for Cuala, 1-11 to 0-10, while the minor B’s went down 1-11 to 0-8 to Ballinteer St Johns.  It looked at times during the A game Crokes would pull away but never managed to do.  Crokes led 0-8 to 0-6 at half time but two Cuala points had the sides level.  A Ronan Walsh goal, after a fantastic run, put Crokes back in the ascendancy, which, despite the dogged efforts of the visitors, they never relinquished.

Minor A:

Richie Tighe, Shane McNicholas, Rory O’Carroll, Paddy Igoe, Ronan Walsh, William McEvoy, Rob O’Loughlin, Conor Clinton, Eoin Culligan, Barry O’Rorke, Brian Hanamy, Barra O’Liadhain, Ciaran O’Grady, Niall Butler, Kevin O’Loughlin.  Sub Oran Turley for

Minor B's

The B’s can count themselves a little unfortunate to go down but a lack of scoring return from pressure told on a night when the leading performers included Killian Motherway, Sean McGrath, Donal Monnelly, Niall Mulligan, Killian Caffrey and Chris Carolan.

Minor B:

Sean McGrath, Niall McIntyre, Donal Monnelly, Jack Doughan, Alan McPhilips, Killian Caffrey, Niall Mulligan, Karl Dias, Fiachra O’Shaughnessy, Eddie O’Byrne, Chris Carolan, Killian Motherway, Ken Noctor, Naomhan O’Riordan, Fergus Hanley.  Subs:  Cathal Thornton, Eoin O’Sullivan, Dara Brennan, Killian Doherty, Colm Garvey, Alan Carr, Paul Collins

Junior B's

On Thursday the Junior B’s Doyle Cup encounter with St Judes in Tymon Park ended in a narrow two point defeat despite the best efforts of Bryan O’Shaughnessey, Aidan Byrne, Paul Ryan, Mark Regan and Pat Kennedy.  The under 14’s travelled to Glasnevin to play Na Fianna in the league and despite conceding a late goal ran out 2-14 to 2-7 winners.  Giving one of the more noteworthy performances of the week the under 16B’s had a convincing league win over Ballinteer St Johns.

And now on to....

The weekend promises no let up with a full programme of juvenile games on Saturday (see www.hill16.ie) and the seniors travelling to Muckalee, Co. Kilkenny, to play the local St Martins.  On Sunday both minor teams are in championship action at 11.00 when the A’s play Na Fianna at Moibhi Road and the B’s play Whitehall Colmcilles at Silverpark.  The same day at the latter venue the Junior 5’s take on Civil Service in the Eddie Barron Shield.

Punchestown Race Day

Hurling Arena

Saturdays see the continuation of outdoor nursery activity at Glenalbyn. This continues every Saturday at 10.00 am for children born 1999 or later.  Contact Liam Coughlan 086-6063232 and lccoughlan@eircom.net.  Active parental input is essential for the success of the nursery.  No hurling experience necessary!
