Report for Week ending 21 Oct 2007
Minor Success!
Highlight of the weekend was the Minor A’s victory over St David’s (a Craobh Chiaran/Parnells combination) in the championship semi final at Rathcoole on Sunday morning 21st October. In pursuit of the club’s third county title of the year, they now take on Na Fianna in the country final, which may be played over the bank holiday weekend.
Up 1-5 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes Crokes looked set fair for victory. However, two Davids goals changed the complexion of the game and only the minimum separated the teams at the break, 1-11 to 2-6 in favour of Crokes. An early Brian Hanamy goal looked to face Crokes for home but the northsiders, aided by a total of twelve points from frees and a penalty goal, proved difficult to shake off and it took Hanamy’s second goal in the fifty second minute to put daylight between the sides. At the long whistle Crokes led 3-17 to 2-14. Crokes stars on the day included Conor Clinton, William McEvoy, Mark Coughlan, and the full forward trio of Hanamy, Kevin O’Loughlin and Barry O’Rorke. Please try to get out and support the team. Children are especially welcome and encouraged.
For those in need of an early week fix there is a very attractive under 16A fixture under lights in Pairc Naomh Uinseann on Monday evening, 22nd October, at 8pm when Crokes attempt to add the league crown to the recently acquired county championship.
Keep an eye on www.kilmacudcrokes.com/hurling or www.hill16.ie for fixture details and always remember to confirm final arrangements with relevant mentors.

Sunday afternoon saw one of the Crokes under 13 teams face St Judes in a Division 1 play off in Tymon Park. Judes had the better of the opening exchanges and were 0-5 to 0-0 clear after twenty minutes. Crokes hit back with a goal and a point. Another Crokes goal put them ahead but Judes then found the net and at half time it was 2-3 to 1-8 in favour of the home team.
Crokes really put it up to their opponents in the second half and several times were within three points. Unfortunately sustained pressure could not produce a goal and Judes broke for two majors at different stages to put the match beyond a game Kilmacud side. While defeat is never palatable, there was a large measure of compensation to be taken from the fact the two Crokes teams finished second and third respectively in premier under 13 competition in 2007.
Squad:
C MacGabhann , A Colclough (Capt.), C Sweeny, M Mannion, P O’Shea, O O’Rorke, M O’Loughlin, M Geraghty, C O’Dwyer, L Hyland, D Keane, H Gowing, M Herlihy, C Spain, C Devins, T Barry, O O’Siochru, D O’Gallchobhair and M O’Dwyer
Under 15s
On Saturday morning the under 15’s played county champions St Jude’s in a league game in Silverpark. Although giving away two goals the Crokes boys only trailed by three at half time (2-2 to 0-5). When the visitors got the opening score of the second half it looked as if the game had gone beyond Crokes. Notwithstanding a reply from Mark O’Dwyer in the thirty seventh minute two more Jude’s points heightened the apprehension. However, to their credit, the Kilmacud lads knuckled down and dominated from then on but could not score the goal that might have brought victory as the game ended 2-6 to 0-10. Among the Crokes stars were James O’Keeffe, Jude Sweeney, Mark O’Dwyer, David McNamara, Nico Silvino and Oisin O’Gallchobhair.
This was a very creditable end of season display by an improving Crokes team who were well mentored during the year by Martin O’Dwyer, Tom Curran and Diarmuid Howley, to whom we extend our thanks

Schools
The combined Dublin Schools team, for which Colaiste Eoin hurlers are not eligible as they themselves entered the competition, progressed to the Leinster Colleges JHC 'A' semi-final following Monday's 1-12 to 1-5 victory over Banagher College in Banagher. For report see http://www.hill16.ie/viewstoryhill16.asp?mainheading=Word+on+The+Hill&id=9024&viewstory=yes
The final took place on Friday when they met Wexford's Good Counsel at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow (2.30). Unfortunately the Dublin team, on which Crokes were represented by Darren McVeigh and Jack Doughan, with James O’Keeffe also on the panel, had to give way as Good Counsel proceeded to the final.
Earlier in the week it was Final Anguish for Colaiste Eoin when they went down 1-17 to 0-10 to St Declan’s in the final of the Dublin Senior A Colleges final.
