Under 21 Victory

On Saturday the under 21’s defeated Craobh Chiaran in a preliminary round championship game in a windy Silverpark.  Playing with the elements in the first half Crokes led 0-7 to 0-0 at the interval.  With the strength of the wind a seven point lead had to be considered slim and so it proved.  The gap was down to three by the thirty ninth minute.  The Crokes second half tactic of having Ross O’Carroll operate behind his half back line was crucial to the outcome as was an all round battling performance especially in the final fifteen minutes during which the home team outscored their opponents by five points to four to leave it 0-13 to 0-9 at the end.  For report see HERE

                                                            Sunday’s Games

On Sunday the seniors missed out on a league final place in going down 0-17 to 0-14 in Silverpark against O’Tooles.  The outcome means these two sides, with the same number of dropped points, will most likely have to meet again to decide who goes through to the final.  This is a game Crokes will look back on with regret as there were several opportunities for them to win.  Having led 0-3 to 0-1 against the breeze they allowed the visitors back into the game and went in down 0-10 to 0-7 at half time.

In the first minute of the second half O’Tooles opened the half’s scoring.  Crokes then dominated the remainder of the half and ate into the O’Tooles lead.  While they managed to level on three occasions they could never get ahead.  With three minutes left it was 0-14 all.  Unfortunately Crokes did not stick to their task and O’Tooles put over three late unanswered points all of which originated from less than forceful Crokes forward play.
