Week Ending 27th April 2008
On Saturday 26th April 2008 the Kilmacud Crokes senior hurlers safely negotiated the first round robin championship game with St Brigids on a 2-16 to 3-10 scoreline in O’Toole Park. For report see HERE. The seniors are not scheduled to see championship action again until August.
Earlier on Saturday the under 8’s through to under 12’s were in action. The former beat Thomas Davis 10 to 2 and Fingalllians by 24 to nil (Go Games Scoring). The under 9’s had a 25 to 16 victory over Na Fianna while the under 10 squads defeated Clontarf and St Judes by 32 to 28 and 25 to 16 respectively. Two under 11 teams travelled to Swords to play Fingallians. The B’s won 7-1 to 1-1 while the A’s went down by 4-2 to 3-4.
At under 12 the A’s, with Ronan Kennedy, Ryan Murphy and Stephen Doyle starring, drew 4-5 to 5-2 with St Vincents in St Annes Park. Crokes conceded three first half goals without reply but had regained the lead only to be denied the two points by a last minute penalty. The second under 12 team lost 10-4 to 5-6 against St Sylvesters while the other under 12 squad put up a really brave performance before going under 3-2 to 2-3 against Naomh Olafs at Deerpark. In the Deerpark game Kevin Culligan kept a superb goal. Cian Montague, Shane Vallom, Killlian O’Shea and Oisin Dowling were redoubtable defenders. Paul Comerford and Stephen Crossan were busy midfielders. John Egan, Hubert Barry, Colin Smyth and James Smith tried hard up front. Substitutes Killian Fleming, Hugh Campion and Con O’Cleirigh also made an impression.
The major success story of the week was the fifth annual Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Corporate Race Day at the Punchestown National Hunt Festival. With a thousand guests, Brian Geraghty and his team put on a spectacular masterfully compered by Marty Morrissey. Once again the club is indebted to all who supported the event and to the Punchestown Work Group for their unstinting drive and commitment. For report check back on the website later. Thanks to their efforts a further large hole has been made in the new Hurling Arena in Glenalbyn debt but there is till some way to go to wipe out the arrears with this entirely Hurling Section funded project. The Arena is in constant use and has been a huge addition to hurling in Kilamcud Crokes. To book a slot for your team contact Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Games Office Colm Maher on 087-2755074 or colm.maher@citigroup.com
While his management colleagues partied in Kildare, Ronan Conway played Cinderalla and took the under 14A’s to Tymon Park for a league clash with St Judes. Having fallen 1-3 to 0-1 behind the Crokes boys recovered and came out on top 3-8 to 2-4. For report see HERE. In Silverpark, the same evening the B’s supplemented by the under 13’s went down by five points to Ballinteer St Johns, 4-4 to 3-2. Among the stars were Donal Keane, Ciaran McIntyre, Adam Spollen, Scott Smith and Gregory Buckley
On Thursday the under 15’s took on Ballyboden in a league tie in Silverpark. The home team fought gamely before going down by five points with strong displays from Oisin O’Carroll, Paddy Tighe, Sean Boyd and Jamie Clinton.
On Sunday morning in Silverpark the Intermediates had a good 2-16 to 2-6 Corn Ceitinn win over Good Counsel. For report see HERE. The Junior C3’s travelled to Porterstown to play Erin Go Breagh in the Millar Shield and prevailed, 2-6 to 0-5. Most prominent for Crokes were Niall McIntyre, Fred Meyer, who scored a super goal, Gavin Hyland at centre back and Ronan Egan. The Junior B’s received a Doyle Cup walk over from Liffey Gaels.
St Benildus Complete Double
On Wednesay St Benildus added the Dublin under 14 title to the under 16 B championship won earlier in the year with a comprehensive win over Castleknock Community College. Both teams featured several Crokes players and many congratulations to all concerned.
