Community Men's Shed Proposal
Members Advisory
As we all know community is so important. We saw the power of community support during the pandemic. In Kilmacud Crokes we pride ourselves on being a community club as well as a GAA club. In that context and under the banner of our Healthy Club Program, we are going to look at the possibility of setting up a Men’s Shed. We are targeting an initial meeting in the club on Monday January 16th at 11am. We would like to invite any members who would be interested in participating to come along. We ask members to also extend the invite to any friends in the community who might be interested. When established, it would be envisaged that the group would probably meet twice a week, timing to be decided by the group. The group would over time decide themselves what activities / agenda the shed would participate in. If interested, please come along on January 16th. You can also send an expression of interest to info@kilmacudcrokes.com. Some information below about Irish Men’s Sheds. Hope to see all those interested on January 16th.
“Having first started in 2009, the men’s sheds movement had its birth in Tipperary where the first men’s shed was formed. Following the formation of the first shed in Ireland, the shed movement began to grow rapidly, with there now being over 400 sheds registered with the Irish Men’s Sheds Association and at least 12,000 men visiting a shed every week. Following the formation of the Irish Men’s Sheds Association in 2011, the Association began to receive national recognition of their value to Irish society. In 2013, the Irish men’s sheds movement received recognition at the very highest level when President Michael D. Higgins became patron to the Irish Men’s Sheds Association”.
